About Brownsville Community Culinary Center

Brownsville Community Culinary Center (BCCC) is a workforce development, food access, and social enterprise organization dedicated to creating economic opportunity through culinary arts, food entrepreneurship, and health equity.

Through our workforce training programs, medically tailored meal initiative, café operations, catering services, and community wellness programming, BCCC serves as a hub for transforming food into a vehicle for economic mobility, health improvement, and community empowerment.

Position Summary

The Business & Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring the financial health, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability of the organization.

This position serves as the organization's lead manager for cash flow, financial planning, accounts receivable, contract reimbursement, social enterprise profitability, and operational financial analysis.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, financially disciplined, persistent in collections and follow-up, and capable of translating financial information into strategic business decisions.

The Business & Finance Manager will play a critical role in strengthening BCCC's cash reserves, improving financial forecasting, maximizing reimbursement and grant revenue, and increasing profitability across the organization's social enterprise activities.

Key Responsibilities Cash Flow Management & Financial Planning

Develop and maintain rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts.
Monitor organizational cash position daily and provide weekly cash reports.
Identify potential cash shortages and develop proactive solutions.
Build systems that strengthen organizational cash reserves.
Support annual budgeting and financial planning processes.
Produce monthly financial performance reports for leadership and the Board.

Accounts Receivable & Revenue Collection

Manage all accounts receivable activities.
Track grant reimbursements, government contracts, invoices, and earned revenue payments.
Follow up persistently with funders, agencies, vendors, and customers regarding outstanding payments.
Coordinate with program and finance staff to ensure timely submission of reimbursement packages.
Maintain an accurate accounts receivable aging report.
Develop systems that reduce reimbursement delays and improve collection timelines.

Government Contracts & Grant Management

Monitor contract budgets, expenditures, and reimbursement schedules.
Ensure all supporting documentation is submitted accurately and on time.
Work closely with program leadership to maximize reimbursement opportunities.
Maintain compliance with funding requirements and reporting deadlines.
Assist with audits, financial reviews, and monitoring visits.

Social Enterprise Financial Management

Analyze profitability of café, catering, medically tailored meals, and other earned-income activities.
Monitor food cost, labor cost, overhead allocation, and gross margin performance.
Develop weekly and monthly profitability dashboards.
Identify opportunities to improve margins and reduce operational waste.
Support pricing strategies for catering, café operations, and meal programs.
Work with operational leadership to increase earned revenue and profitability.

Financial Operations

Review invoices, expenses, purchasing practices, and vendor relationships.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
Monitor payroll allocations and labor utilization.
Support bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting functions.
Coordinate with external accountants and auditors as needed.

Strategic Leadership

Serve as a key advisor to the Executive Director on financial strategy.
Participate in organizational planning and growth initiatives.
Develop financial systems and processes that support expansion.
Help establish key performance indicators (KPIs) across departments.
Contribute to a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, business operations, or nonprofit finance.
Demonstrated experience managing budgets of $1 million or more.
Strong understanding of cash flow management and financial forecasting.
Experience managing accounts receivable and collections.
Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
Exceptional organizational and follow-up abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

Experience with nonprofit financial management and government contracts.
Experience working with workforce development, human services, or food-based organizations.
Experience analyzing restaurant, catering, food production, or hospitality operations.
Knowledge of QuickBooks, ADP, and nonprofit accounting systems.
Experience supporting social enterprise or earned-income business models.

Success Metrics (First 12 Months)

The successful candidate will:

Improve accounts receivable collection timelines.
Maintain accurate 13-week cash flow forecasts.
Increase organizational cash reserves.
Improve reimbursement submission and collection processes.
Develop profitability reporting for all social enterprise activities.
Identify measurable cost savings opportunities.
Provide timely and accurate financial reporting to leadership.
