Full Job Description

Lead Teacher & Site Supervisor

San Mateo, CA

$75,000–$88,000/year · Full-Time · In-Person

Teach a classroom and lead the site, backed by a central team that carries the business.

The Modern Schoolhouse is hiring a Lead Teacher & Site Supervisor for our San Mateo school, a 90-child premium early childhood education program serving infants, toddlers, and Pre-K families. This is a hands-on dual role: you'll lead your own classroom and serve as site supervisor, working alongside and reporting to the Campus Director — owning day-to-day classroom quality and stepping in as on-site leader when the Director is out.

Requirements

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (required); Bachelor's preferred.
California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (required, or eligible to obtain within 90 days).
Confident leading an infant, toddler, or Pre-K classroom in ratio while carrying supervisory duties.
3+ years in ECE, including 1+ year as a Lead Teacher or in a supervisory role.
Demonstrated ability to coach and develop teachers.
Working knowledge of California Title 22 and Title 5 licensing requirements.
Fluency in Conscious Discipline (or willingness to become certified).
Strong, warm communication with families and staff.
Comfort with technology, data, and operational systems

What You'll Do

Lead your own classroom as part of the daily teaching team.
Partner with the Campus Director to run daily operations across infant, toddler, and Pre-K classrooms.
Serve as the on-site leader when the Director is out.
Coach and develop Lead Teachers and Teaching Assistants — performance and the promotion pathway.
Support licensing compliance, health and safety, and staff scheduling.
Uphold Conscious Discipline implementation and curriculum fidelity.
Support the family experience from tour through enrollment through graduation.
Facilitate tour and inquiry response, supported by our centralized Tour Tracker.
Contribute to hiring and retention of teaching staff
