Financial Controller

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead and execute full-cycle accounting operations across a dynamic, multi-entity real estate investment organization. This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in growth environments, brings deep real estate and construction accounting expertise, and enjoys being a trusted financial tool to ownership and operations.

The ideal candidate for this position is high-energy, detail-oriented and will oversee day-to-day accounting functions while providing forward-looking financial insight to support strategic decision-making across development projects, renovations, rental portfolios, and investment entities.

Key Responsibilities

Own and manage full-cycle accounting across multiple entities, including but not limited to general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close.
Ensure accurate and timely financial records in compliance with internal controls.
Oversee intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and multi-entity consolidations.

Lead cash flow management, including short- and long-term forecasting across operating, development, and investment entities.
Develop and manage budgets and forecasts, providing leadership with forward-looking insights to support growth and capital planning.
Manage and monitor multi-entity banking relationships, ensuring liquidity, controls, and efficient cash utilization.

Maintain detailed job costing and project accounting for renovations, flips, and development projects.
Track costs, analyze cost-to-complete, and monitor budget variances throughout the lifecycle of each project.
Prepare and submit lender draw packages, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and supporting documentation.

Produce accurate and timely balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Deliver executive-level financial reporting, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and performance insights.
Support ownership and leadership with clear, actionable financial data for decision-making.

Manage financial reporting across a multi-property portfolio (100+ properties).
Prepare investor-ready reports, including NOI analysis, property performance metrics, and portfolio summaries.
Support investor communications with clear and reliable financial information.

Utilize and optimize accounting systems, including QuickBooks Online (certified), advanced Excel modeling, and property/construction accounting platforms (e.g., Appfolio and job-costing systems).
Partner with operations and construction teams to improve financial controls, workflows, and reporting accuracy.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance financial visibility across departments.

Serve as a trusted team member to ownership, executive leadership, operations, and construction teams.
Provide financial guidance that supports operational efficiency, profitability, and strategic growth.
Help build scalable accounting infrastructure to support a growing real estate platform.

Required Technical Skills & Experience

Hands-on Controller with deep experience in real estate development, construction, and property management accounting.
Proven ownership of cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and banking relationships in growth-oriented organizations.
Extensive expertise in construction and project accounting, including job costing, cost-to-complete, and lender draw preparation.
Strong financial reporting background with the ability to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful executive-level reports.
Experience supporting multi-property portfolios with investor-focused reporting and NOI analysis.
Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, and property/construction accounting systems.
Collaborative, solutions-oriented professional with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Stable, long-term-focused professional seeking a hands-on Controller role within a growing real estate organization.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Expert proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including class tracking, project/job costing, and multi-entity management.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in real estate construction or property management accounting.
Strong understanding of rehab and renovation accounting (materials, subcontractors, permits, timelines).
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
High-energy, proactive personality with a “get it done” mindset.
