Heavy Civil Foreman

Jeffery Contracting LLC is seeking a qualified and experienced Heavy Civil Foreman to join our team. We are a Union Highway Paving/Heavy Civil Contractor based in Butte, Montana, performing a variety of highway, site development, underground utility, excavation, grading, and heavy civil construction projects.

Job Description:

Heavy Civil Foreman – Responsible for the daily supervision, coordination, and production of heavy civil construction crews. The Foreman will work closely with project management, operators, laborers, subcontractors, inspectors, and other project personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans, specifications, schedules, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in heavy civil construction, including excavation, site grading, underground utilities, roadway construction, highway work, and related operations. Candidates should have the ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, survey stakes, elevations, grades, and layout information.

The Foreman is expected to plan daily work activities, communicate expectations to crew members, coordinate equipment and materials, monitor production, and identify potential problems before they affect the project. This position requires strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

The Foreman must promote a positive work environment, hold employees accountable, and lead by example while maintaining professional relationships with employees, subcontractors, owners, inspectors, clients, and the general public.

Qualifications/Responsibilities:

· At least 18 years of age.

· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Class A CDL preferred.

· 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience preferred.

· Previous foreman, leadman, or crew leadership experience preferred.

· Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, materials, equipment, and tools.

· Experience with excavation, grading, roadway construction, underground utilities, site work, and related heavy civil operations.

· Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, design drawings, profiles, elevations, and details.

· Understand survey/layout markings, stakes, offsets, elevations, and grade information.

· Ability to shoot and verify grades using appropriate grade-checking equipment.

· Plan and organize daily crew activities to meet project schedules and production goals.

· Direct and supervise operators, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members.

· Assign work and clearly communicate daily expectations and project requirements.

· Coordinate manpower, equipment, trucking, materials, and subcontractors as needed.

· Monitor work to ensure it meets plans, specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements.

· Identify potential project conflicts, production issues, or safety concerns and communicate them to project management.

· Maintain accurate daily records, including manpower, equipment, quantities, production, deliveries, delays, and jobsite conditions.

· Conduct or participate in daily safety meetings and job hazard assessments.

· Ensure crew members follow Jeffery Contracting safety policies and all applicable OSHA/MSHA requirements.

· Perform regular jobsite inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions or work practices.

· Ensure equipment inspections, maintenance checks, fueling, greasing, and general equipment care are being completed.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.

· Coordinate effectively with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and owners.

· Demonstrate strong leadership and the ability to motivate and maintain productivity within the crew.

· Have keen attention to detail and strong situational awareness.

· Be willing and able to assist with equipment operation and laboring activities when necessary.

· Able to lift 50+ lbs. and perform work in outdoor construction environments.

· Demonstrate excellent communication, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

· Display a professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, subcontractors, clients, inspectors, and the general public.

· Must be dependable, reliable, and on time daily.

· Able to pass a pre-employment screening.
