The Engineer I is responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks throughout Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This position assists in maintaining the functionality, safety, and appearance of all property systems and facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment. The Engineer I ensures that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with established policies and procedures to support a comfortable and reliable environment for guests and team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Conducts routine inspections of buildings and equipment to ensure safe and proper operation across all departments.
- Performs structural repairs to both interior and exterior building components.
- Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC systems, pumps, valves, lighting fixtures, and related equipment.
- Maintains and repairs carpentry structures including doors, railings, and trim; performs welding and fabrication as needed.
- Primes and paints interior and exterior building surfaces, signs, and other fixtures.
- Installs and finishes drywall and other wall coverings.
- Performs basic electrical repairs including outlets, switches, and light fixtures; assists in the installation of electrical systems.
- Installs plumbing fixtures and repairs or replaces faucets, flush valves, shut-off valves, and defective pipes.
- Maintains water and sewer lines, including installation and minor repairs.
- Installs and services water heaters, refrigerators, and air conditioning units.
- Assists in maintaining building support systems and performs tasks as assigned.
- Responds to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic knowledge of general building systems including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and drywall repair.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools, welding equipment, and testing instruments.
- Understanding of maintenance practices, repair methods, and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of materials, parts, and supplies used in facility maintenance.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Technical training or certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related trade preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in facilities maintenance, engineering, or a related field required.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Experience performing routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting tasks.
- Familiarity with safety procedures, use of hand and power tools, and building systems operations.
- Experience in a hotel, resort, casino, or large commercial facility preferred.
- Willingness to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

- Mobility: Frequently walks, climbs, bends, kneels, and crawls in tight spaces or on ladders and lifts; must be able to navigate utility rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and other facility areas safely.
- Stationary Work: Occasionally remains seated for short periods to complete paperwork, review assignments, or operate computer systems related to work order tracking.
- Tool Operation: Frequent use of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, meters, ladders, lifts, and maintenance systems; must understand safe handling and correct usage of all tools.
- Visual Acuity: Requires clear near and far vision to read schematics, perform inspections, identify mechanical problems, and monitor gauges or control panels.
- Working Conditions: Routinely works in mechanical rooms, rooftops, exterior areas, and other utility zones with exposure to loud noise, moving equipment, temperature extremes, electrical systems, cleaning agents, and chemicals; also exposed to a smoking environment when in or near the casino or public areas.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.
WORKING HOURS:
Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
