Position Summary
Department: Risk, Security & Compliance
Reports To: Director of Compliance / Chief Operating Officer
Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Travel: Approximately 20-25% — regional/multi-site travel required
The Security Manager is the organization's subject matter expert (SME) for physical security across all ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) and electronics recycling operations. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving a security program that satisfies the strict requirements of NAID AAA certification, R2v3, and the heightened security expectations of our regulated customer base (including but not limited to financial services, healthcare, and government clients).
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role that combines strategic program ownership with day-to-day operational execution: maintaining security infrastructure (CCTV, access control, alarm systems), managing secure chain-of-custody zones, leading employee security training and awareness, and managing audits related to security controls.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Serve as the primary SME and point of contact for the security requirements of NAID AAA, R2v3, and related certifications (e.g., e-Stewards, ISO 27001), owning audit readiness year-round rather than only before scheduled audits.
- Maintain and continuously update all written security policies, procedures, and control documentation required to remain in compliance with certifying bodies and customer contractual security requirements.
- Lead or support internal audits, third-party/customer audits, unannounced NAID surveillance audits, and corrective action plans (CAPs) related to security; track findings to closure.
- Monitor evolving regulatory requirements (customer-specific security addenda) and translate changes into updated security policy and practice.
- Maintain chain-of-custody and certificate-of-destruction documentation standards.
Physical Security
- Own the security program across all facilities: access control systems, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion detection/alarm systems, visitor management, and secure chain-of-custody zones (receiving, processing, data destruction, shipping).
- Ensure all security equipment is fully operational, regularly tested, and promptly repaired or upgraded; maintain preventive maintenance schedules and vendor relationships for security systems.
- Conduct routine security assessments and walk-throughs at all sites, including gap analyses against NAID/R2v3 physical security requirements.
- Manage badge/key issuance, employee and visitor access levels, and secure area authorization lists.
- Lead security incident investigations (unauthorized access, theft, loss) and drive corrective actions.
- Coordinate with facilities and operations leadership on secure site design, perimeter security, and material handling flow through secure zones.
- Support security incident response planning and execution, including coordination with local law enforcement where required.
Training, Culture & Program Management
- Design and deliver a company-wide security training and awareness program (onboarding and annual refresher training) covering security procedures, insider-threat awareness, and secure handling of materials and equipment.
- Track training completion and compliance records to support audit evidence requirements.
- Develop and maintain the security policy library, ensuring policies are reviewed on a regular cycle and acknowledged by all employees.
- Build strong working relationships with Operations, IT, HR, and Compliance to embed security practices into daily workflows rather than treating them as an add-on.
- Report on program status, audit results, incidents, and key risk indicators to leadership on a regular cadence.
Multi-Site & Travel Responsibilities
- Travel approximately 20-25% of the time to company facilities and, where applicable, customer or downstream vendor sites to perform security assessments, audits, training, and incident response support.
- Standardize security practices across all locations to ensure consistent compliance regardless of site.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Business, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in security management, security operations, loss prevention, or a related field.
- Direct experience working within, or supporting compliance for, NAID AAA and/or R2v3 certified operations strongly preferred; ITAD, electronics recycling, or data destruction industry experience highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of chain-of-custody principles and downstream vendor risk management as they relate to security controls.
- Demonstrated experience managing physical security systems (access control, CCTV, alarm monitoring) and coordinating with vendors/integrators.
- Experience developing and delivering employee security training programs.
- Strong audit management experience — preparing for, hosting, and closing out findings from internal and third-party audits.
- Excellent written communication skills for policy authorship and documentation that must withstand external audit scrutiny.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 20-25% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications such as PSP (Physical Security Professional), CPP (Certified Protection Professional), or equivalent.
- NAID AAA Certification Auditor familiarity or R2v3 Certified Auditor knowledge.
- Experience in a multi-site operations environment within manufacturing, logistics, recycling, or asset management industries.
- Background in law enforcement, military, or corporate security with progression into a management role.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primary work location is the Mather, California facility with regular presence on the operations/warehouse floor as well as office/administrative settings.
- Some exposure to a warehouse/industrial recycling environment (noise, equipment, material handling areas) during facility walk-throughs and audits; appropriate PPE will be provided.
- Ability to travel by car and/or air to other company or partner sites, approximately 20-25% of the time, including occasional overnight travel.
