Contract Litigation Attorney – Real Estate, Housing & Civil Litigation (Remote – California)

Reference: 148677

Advance your litigation career with a respected California law firm handling sophisticated disputes involving real estate, affordable housing, land use, construction, and public entity matters.

This contract opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 2–5 years of civil litigation experience who is looking for hands-on responsibility, meaningful client interaction, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced litigators. The role offers exposure to every stage of the litigation process—from case inception through trial preparation—with the potential to transition into a full-time position.

Responsibilities

Manage litigation matters from inception through resolution.
Draft pleadings, motions, oppositions, and legal memoranda.
Conduct legal research, factual investigation, and case analysis.
Manage all phases of discovery, including written discovery and document production.
Conduct and defend depositions.
Prepare and argue motions in California state and federal courts.
Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations.
Assist with bench and jury trial preparation.
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide case updates.
Meet court deadlines and effectively manage an independent caseload.

Qualifications

Active California Bar license in good standing.
2–5 years of civil litigation experience.
Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
Experience drafting substantive motions and legal memoranda.
Discovery and deposition experience required.
Oral advocacy experience preferred.
Bench and jury trial experience preferred.
Experience in real estate, affordable housing, land use, construction, or public entity litigation is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Compensation: $110,000–$160,000 equivalent.
Hourly Rate: $70–$100, depending on experience.
Discretionary year-end bonus.
Health and dental insurance.
Paid parking.
California Bar dues paid by the firm.
401(k) eligibility after one year.
Discretionary retirement contribution.
10 days of paid time off annually.
Paid firm holidays.

Work Environment

Fully remote position.
Regular client interaction and case responsibility.
Court appearances throughout San Diego County.
Direct collaboration with experienced partners.
Independent management of assigned litigation matters.
Target annual billable requirement of 1,800–2,000 hours.

Opportunity

This contract position offers an excellent opportunity to gain substantial litigation experience while working on sophisticated matters in a collaborative environment. Strong performers may be considered for conversion to a full-time attorney position.

Salary Range: $110,000–$160,000 annual equivalent ($70–$100/hour)
