Schedule: Monday–Friday, some Saturdays | Typically 45–55 hours per week

Compensation
Construction Laborers: $20.00–$25.00/hour
Equipment Operators: $25.00–$30.00/hour
CDL Premium: Approximately $3.00–$5.00/hour for qualified Class A or Class B CDL holders, depending on experience and position.
Overtime opportunities are available based on project schedules and workload.
Position Overview
Farwest Corrosion Control Company is expanding its construction capacity in Downey, California and is immediately hiring multiple Construction Laborers and Equipment Operators to support active field construction projects.
These are full-time, permanent positions with Farwest—not temporary or end-of-year project roles.
We are seeking dependable, safety-minded individuals who are comfortable working in active construction environments and traveling regularly to project sites. Candidates with backgrounds in utility and underground construction are especially encouraged to apply, as these environments most closely align with Farwest's construction work.
Experience in civil construction, pipeline, excavation, corrosion-control construction, or similar field environments is also highly transferable.
Farwest is particularly interested in candidates who hold an active Class A or Class B CDL. CDL holders may come from either the Laborer or Operator side, although experienced Equipment Operators with CDLs are especially desirable.
Construction Laborer Responsibilities
Construction Laborers will support field crews with a variety of hands-on construction activities, including:
- Digging ditches and trenches and assisting with excavation and backfill
- Compacting and leveling earth using hand and pneumatic tools
- Loading and unloading construction materials and equipment
- Mixing, pouring, and spreading concrete, asphalt, or gravel
- Preparing and cleaning construction sites
- Removing debris, obstacles, and potential jobsite hazards
- Assisting equipment operators with safe movement and positioning of machinery
- Assisting with traffic control around active work zones
- Measuring, marking, setting stakes, and assisting with basic field layout
- Using basic construction tools and equipment
- Following plans, instructions, and specifications provided by field supervision
- Maintaining clean tools, equipment, and work areas
- Following all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and jobsite procedures
Equipment Operator Responsibilities
Equipment Operators will perform construction duties while safely operating equipment used for excavation, grading, site preparation, and material handling.
Responsibilities include:
- Safely operating mini-excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and similar construction equipment
- Performing excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, and earthwork
- Compacting and leveling earth to grade specifications
- Loading, unloading, hauling, and positioning construction materials
- Assisting with concrete, asphalt, gravel, and site preparation work
- Reading and following plans, specifications, and field instructions
- Coordinating safely with laborers, foremen, and other equipment operators
- Performing basic daily equipment inspections
- Fueling equipment and assisting with preventative maintenance
- Identifying and reporting equipment deficiencies or needed repairs
- Maintaining safe and clean jobsites
- Following company and DOT safety requirements
Equipment Operator Qualifications
- 2–3 years of construction experience required
- Utility and underground construction experience strongly preferred
- Pipeline, civil, excavation, and similar heavy construction backgrounds are also encouraged
- Prior experience operating mini-excavators, backhoes, and/or skid steers required
- Ability to safely work around active construction equipment and traffic
- Ability to follow plans and instructions with minimal supervision
- Class A or Class B CDL highly preferred
Construction Laborer Qualifications
- Previous construction labor experience preferred but not required
- Utility and underground construction experience is highly desirable
- Experience in civil construction, pipeline, excavation, or similar field environments is a plus
- Working knowledge of basic construction tools and safe material-handling practices preferred
- Dependable and able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a field crew
- Class A or Class B CDL is a major plus
Travel & Schedule Requirements
Candidates should be comfortable with a field-based construction schedule and approximately 75% travel based on project needs.
Farwest performs work throughout the region, including projects approximately 1–2 hours from the Downey area, as well as projects requiring overnight travel.
Candidates should expect:
- Monday–Friday schedule with some Saturdays
- Approximately 45–55 hours per week
- 10-hour workdays are most common
- Some project days may extend up to approximately 12 hours
- Regular travel to active project sites
- Overnight travel when required by the project
For projects where employees return home each day, regular commute/drive time to and from the jobsite is not paid.
When overnight travel is required, Farwest provides and pays for hotel accommodations and provides a $50 per diem.
Physical & Jobsite Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds consistently
- Perform repetitive physical construction tasks
- Stand, walk, bend, dig, and work on uneven surfaces for extended periods
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Work safely in and around active construction equipment and traffic
- Wear required PPE and comply with all company safety procedures
- Work extended days and overtime based on project requirements
- Travel regularly for project assignments
CDL Candidates
Farwest is actively seeking candidates with an active Class A or Class B CDL.
CDL holders with construction, equipment operation, utility, underground, pipeline, or civil experience are strongly encouraged to apply. While CDL holders can come from either the Laborer or Equipment Operator side, experienced Operators with a CDL are especially desirable.
Qualified CDL candidates may be eligible for an approximately $3.00–$5.00/hour compensation premium, depending on position and experience.
Additional Requirements
These positions are subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements, including applicable federal drug-testing requirements.
Candidates must also be able to meet Farwest's applicable employment, safety, driving, and jobsite requirements.
