About Los Angeles County Department of Health Services & High Desert Regional Health Center

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation, caring for patients across a network of hospitals and clinics throughout LA County. High Desert Regional Health Center (HDRHC) is a modern ambulatory care facility located in Lancaster, CA, serving residents of the Antelope Valley and surrounding areas. Our multidisciplinary teams provide comprehensive primary and specialty care, with integrated behavioral health and supportive services. Our mission-driven providers care for a safety-net population with a strong focus on chronic disease management, prevention, and health equity.

Position Summary

High Desert Health Center Groups is seeking full-time internal medicine or family medicine physicians for its High Desert Regional Health Center - Adult Primary Care Clinic based in Lancaster and Palmdale California. Candidates will have a commitment to medically underserved populations and a desire to achieve outstanding quality, efficiency, and patient experience.

Key aspects of the role include:

Outpatient, clinic-based primary care with potential for some telehealth, as applicable
Care for a diverse safety-net population with a broad mix of chronic and acute conditions
Collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team (NPs, RNs, LVNs, MAs, behavioral health, care coordinators, etc.)

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

Provides and develops acute, chronic, and preventive care and education to adults.
Obtains and performs thorough and precise histories and physical examinations on patients at a frequency determined to be appropriate, by service.
Performs thorough and precise focused exams, as clinically indicated.
Performs approved clinic procedures, for which he/she has current privileges, with skill and expertise.
Provides appropriate patient and family education regarding the patient’s diagnosis, treatment, diet, medical equipment, and additional instructions as indicated.
Follows national and/or local guidelines in practicing preventive medicine, as appropriate.
Recognizes the importance of psychosocial / behavioral medicine in the care of patients. Treats such conditions or refers appropriately.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality when using the medical record.
Orders tests/labs judiciously and as clinically indicated. Reviews and signs all test results in a timely manner and takes appropriate action.
Appropriately refers patients for emergency care or admissions as clinically appropriate.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduate from an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Medicine-Pediatrics residency program
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Medicine-Pediatrics
Active California state medical license

Schedule & Practice Details

Full-time, outpatient-only position (e.g., Monday–Friday, daytime hours; specific schedule to be confirmed)
No inpatient responsibilities; limited or no call, depending on clinic needs
Team-based practice model with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, MAs, and behavioral health staff
Typical patient volume per day and panel size to be determined based on clinic standards

Holidays – Enjoy an average of 13 paid holidays each year
Paid Vacation – You receive 80 hours per year after your first year of service, 120 hours per year after 4 years and an additional 8 hours each year until 200 hours annual amount is reached
Sick Leave – You can receive 80 hours per year in your 1st year, 88 hours from your 2nd to 4th year, and 96 hours from your 5th year onwards
10 days or 80 hours per calendar year for approved Continuing Medical Education (CME) purposes
Board Certification Bonus (5.5% of base salary monthly)
Primary Care Differential: Full-time DHS Physicians responsible for providing direct patient care in primary care for their panel (i.e., 8 scheduled and 2 unscheduled half-day sessions of primary care work/panel case management duties per week) shall receive 10% of the base salary

High Desert Health System Bonus: Eligible DHS physician working in a facility located within the High Desert Health System shall receive a per occasion bonus of $57.00 per hour.
