Production Control Coordinator

Modus Advanced, Inc.

Location: Carlsbad, CA

Pay: $27–32/hour depending on experience

Reports to: Production Manager (dotted line to Planning)

Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Position Overview

Modus Advanced is looking for a Production Control Coordinator to own the flow of information through our Carlsbad floor. If you have spent time in a production environment and know what happens when a lot number gets recorded wrong, when a routing step is missing, or when the system says there are forty parts in inventory and the rack has twelve — this role exists to stop those things from happening.

You will be the person who knows where every job is, what has been consumed against it, and what the system says versus what the floor actually did. Our components go into life-saving medical devices, critical defense systems, and aerospace programs, which means traceability is not paperwork for its own sake. It is the record that proves the part is what we say it is.

What Success Looks Like

Six months in, the Production Manager and the programmers are no longer reconstructing the month at month end. Jobs move from raw material through machining, secondary operations, inspection, and shipping with the transactions recorded as they happen. Discrepancies get caught the day they occur, not four weeks later on a reconciliation call.

You are the person the floor comes to when the paperwork does not match the part, and the person planning trusts to flag a routing that will not work before it releases. Over time, you become the site's deepest user of our ERP — the one who knows why the system behaves the way it does, not just which buttons to press.

Key Responsibilities

Production Control and Job Flow

Track the status and location of every open job as it moves between departments, inspection, and shipping
Build and release job binders and travelers, verifying routings and operations are correct and complete before the job hits the floor
Catch routing, quantity, and documentation errors before they reach the floor rather than after
Generate pick lists and coordinate the pull and staging of material against upcoming jobs
Maintain traveler and production records to support full lot traceability

ERP Ownership

Own the accuracy and timeliness of production transactions — material consumptions, labor and time, quantities, scrap, and job status
Reconcile physical reality on the floor against system records, and resolve variances at the source
Investigate inventory discrepancies and drive them to a root cause instead of an adjustment
Support month-end close by ensuring transactions are complete and correct before the books are pulled
Become the on-site resource other departments go to with ERP questions

Floor Coordination

Follow up with operators, machinists, and supervisors to ensure production information is captured in real time
Build simple, durable processes that make it easier for the floor to record information correctly the first time
Work with planning to translate job plans into floor-ready packets and picks
Flag data, paperwork, or material gaps that put schedule at risk, early enough to do something about them
Take administrative load off supervisors and programmers so they can stay on setup, programming, and production

Inventory and Material Support

Perform cycle counts, stock verification, and inventory adjustments on raw material and WIP
Verify quantities against travelers and pick lists
Monitor consumable and material levels and coordinate restock before a shortage stops a job
Move and stage material between work centers, inspection, and storage as needed
Maintain organized staging and work areas following 5S, and follow all safety protocols on the floor

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent
2+ years working in a manufacturing production environment — machine shop, fabrication, assembly, or similar. This is a firm requirement; office or administrative coordination outside of manufacturing does not substitute.
Hands-on experience using a manufacturing ERP or MRP system for production transactions — consumptions, labor, job status, inventory
Direct working knowledge of job travelers, routers, work orders, and lot traceability
Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English

Technical Skills

Comfortable moving between multiple software systems and keeping data accurate under volume
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel
Ability to read and follow work instructions, travelers, routers, and basic engineering drawings
Working understanding of how a part moves from raw material through machining, secondary operations, inspection, and shipment

Personal Attributes

Physical Requirements

Ability to move between a workstation and the production floor throughout the day
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the floor for extended periods
Good eyesight (correction allowable) for detailed documentation and basic inspection work
Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds as required for material handling
