Full Job Description

The HVAC Controls & Automation Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, configuring, and maintaining computer-based building automation and control systems. This role supports the safe and efficient operation of mechanical and electrical equipment, including HVAC units, energy management systems, and related controls. The Technician ensures optimal building performance through proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely response to service needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Install, service, and maintain HVAC control systems, building automation systems, sensors, controllers, and related hardware and software.
Perform electrical and control system troubleshooting, including input/output devices, communication networks, controllers, and field equipment.
Manage the building maintenance operations for assigned locations, ensuring proper functionality of HVAC and mechanical systems.
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance, documenting findings and ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, service documentation, and reports within required timelines.
Assess current and future building needs through regular site inspections and report recommendations to management.
Keep all tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments in proper working condition; arrange repairs or replacements when needed.
Respond to after-hours emergencies and provide support during unexpected equipment failures or critical system alerts.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely resolution of issues and continuity of operations.

Requirements & Competencies

Associate Degree in HVAC, Electronics, Automation, Engineering Technology, or related field (preferred).
Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and understanding of control wiring, sensors, and low-voltage systems (a must).
Excellent technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex system issues.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals (preferred).
Flexibility to work extended hours and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Strong communication skills and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation.
