Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a Retirement Specialist Manager I to provide leadership, technical guidance, and operational support within our Production and Benefits Division. This position oversees daily operations, supports retirement staff, ensures accuracy and compliance in benefit calculations, and helps deliver high-quality service to members and retirees.

The ideal candidate will have experience in retirement administration, pension benefits, benefit calculations, regulatory compliance, and staff leadership. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex retirement rules and policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and support Retirement Assistants and Retirement Specialists in the daily operations of the Retirement Production and Benefits Division.
Manage workloads, staffing needs, performance expectations, and division goals to ensure operational effectiveness.
Develop work standards, complete performance evaluations, approve leave requests, and provide employee guidance and support.
Review member accounts to determine retirement eligibility and calculate estimated retirement benefits.
Apply and interpret retirement statutes, policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Perform quality assurance reviews of retirement calculations and benefit determinations.
Verify complex retirement calculations
Review and verify retirement specialist work involving specialized plans
Prepare and review correspondence related to retirement benefits, eligibility determinations, and member inquiries.
Compile and present monthly production statistics and operational reports to management and the Retirement Board.
Participate in the current pension administration system project, including system testing, training, implementation, and coordination with internal teams and vendors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Some travel may be involved

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

Retirement benefit administration and pension plan operations.
Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 286 and PERS policies and procedures.
Retirement eligibility requirements, service credit calculations, and benefit formulas.
Federal and state laws, regulations, and policies affecting retirement benefits.
Recordkeeping practices, business processes, and quality assurance procedures.
Microsoft Office applications

Ability to:

Interpret and apply complex statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Review detailed records and identify errors, discrepancies, and required corrections.
Analyze data, prepare reports, and interpret operational statistics.
Perform accurate mathematical calculations using established formulas.
Communicate professionally and effectively with employees, management, members, retirees, and stakeholders.
Prioritize multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to assigned staff.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience as a Retirement Specialist I or Retirement Specialist II; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

Upon approval of the appointing authority, this position may progress toRetirement Specialist Manager II.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience administering defined benefit pension plans.
Experience interpreting retirement statutes, policies, and procedures.
Experience reviewing or auditing retirement benefit calculations.
Supervisory or lead experience in a benefits, payroll, finance, or public administration environment.

Pay: $64,415.00 - $95,630.00 per year
