Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe operative procedures. Your expertise in perioperative care, anatomy, and isterile techniques will directly contribute to optimal patient outcomes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your technical proficiency and patient care skills make a meaningful difference every day.

Responsibilities

Assist surgeons during operative procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, and tissue handling to facilitate efficient surgeries.
Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
Monitor patient vital signs and physiological responses throughout procedures, reporting any abnormalities promptly.
Support discharge planning by coordinating post-operative care instructions and ensuring seamless communication with healthcare teams.
Maintain accurate medical records, documentation of surgical procedures, and updates within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic.
Demonstrate expertise in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology to anticipate surgical needs and troubleshoot intraoperative challenges.
Uphold hospital patient safety standards by adhering to infection prevention protocols and hospital policies for aseptic technique.

Skills

Proven experience as a surgical first assistant
Strong knowledge of OR procedures, sterile techniques, suturing skills, and perioperative care practices.
Familiarity with EMR systems
Experience working in diverse clinical environments.
Excellent analysis skills for assessing patient needs and responding effectively during acute care situations.
Comprehensive understanding of hospital patient safety protocols, healthcare infection prevention and control measures.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in high-stakes environments like trauma or emergency cases.
Knowledge of vital signs monitoring, physiology principles, and pediatric care considerations when applicable.
