About Central Texas Food Bank
The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in Central Texas and a proud member of the Feeding America network. From its headquarters in Austin and its distribution hub in Waco, CTFB serves a 21-county region on a mission to increase food access by providing nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through programs, education, and innovative solutions. Through a combination of direct service programs and a network of approximately 250 nonprofit community partners, CTFB supports over 612,000 food-insecure individuals annually. Position Overview
The Vice President of Finance + Accounting (VPFA) is responsible for managing the collection and recording of all pertinent finance and accounting data and transactions. This includes oversight of general ledgers, accounts payables/receivables, billings, audits, and managing the annual budget process. The VPFA is responsible for hiring, training and management of all accounting associates. In addition, the Vice President of Finance will oversee grants accounting, payroll and contract management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting: Provides strategic oversight of accounting operations and financial reporting, ensuring the integrity of the general ledger, timely completion of monthly and quarterly close processes, accurate financial statements, effective liquidity monitoring, account reconciliations, and appropriate management of fixed assets and investment accounting.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis: Leads the organization’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes, monitoring financial performance and variances while identifying trends, risks, cost-saving opportunities, and other insights that strengthen financial performance and support organizational decision-making.

Internal Controls, Policies & Financial Stewardship: Establishes and maintains effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that safeguard organizational assets, promote accurate and efficient financial operations, mitigate financial risk, and ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

Audit, Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Provides oversight of annual audits, tax reporting, cost reports, and other financial compliance requirements, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of supporting documentation and serving as a key liaison with auditors, tax advisors, and other external partners.

Grants & Restricted Funding Management: Provides financial oversight of government grants and other restricted funding, ensuring accurate budgeting, accounting, reconciliations, reporting, and claim submissions while maintaining compliance with applicable funder and regulatory requirements.

Payroll & Benefits Financial Administration: Oversees payroll and related benefits financial administration, ensuring accurate and timely processing, effective systems and internal controls, appropriate reconciliations, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Financial Performance & Executive Decision Support: Provides executive leadership with meaningful financial reporting, performance metrics, analysis, and recommendations that inform strategic and operational decisions, strengthen organizational performance, and support achievement of financial and organizational goals.

Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement: Establishes department performance measures, evaluates marketing and communications effectiveness, and uses data and insights to continuously improve strategies, operations, and organizational impact.

Department Leadership & Staff Development: Leads and develops a high-performing Finance & Accounting team by establishing clear goals and accountability, managing performance, providing coaching and developmental feedback, and building the technical, professional, and leadership capabilities necessary to achieve departmental and organizational priorities.

Organizational Alignment: Models and reinforces the Central Texas Food Bank's values of Service, Integrity, Dignity, Collaboration, and Innovation while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Other: Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this position is highly visible internally with 3 direct reports. The Vice President of Finance + Accounting partners with cross-functional departments to execute and carry out organizational priorities and objectives. The VPFA is a supportive role to the COO and leadership regarding strategic and financial/accounting trends and issues. The role must continually demonstrate credibility by matching words and actions, listening effectively, and serving as an engaged problem solver of accounting issues.

Your Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Accounting or Finance required.
CPA license
10 years direct experience with G/L, A/P, A/R, budget, and financial statement preparation with 3 years of Controller or Director level experience.
Previous experience with non-profit organizations and/or long-term care setting is a plus.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. In particular, the ability to understand and organize detailed information and to write about or talk extemporaneously on that information.
Ability to juggle multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Exercise good judgment and discretion; strong ethical character capable of handling confidential information
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Familiarity and Comfort with ERP systems. Experience with ERP implementations a plus.
Demonstrates superior organizational skills

Working Conditions

Hours of Operation: Although organization hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., this position may require flexibility during peak times such as budget periods, end of fiscal year, holiday seasons, and disaster response. After-hours work may be required, on nights and weekends, throughout the year specific to special food bank events.
Environment: Involves activities in both office and warehouse environments. There are extended periods of sitting, listening, talking and/or visual concentration.
Travel: CTFB serves 21 counties in central Texas and often requires same-day travel between counties, using a personal vehicle, CTFB passenger fleet and possibly occasional out of town travel for meetings, special events or meetings for some positions.
