Full Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented individual to manage the complete insurance verification, patient cost estimate, and authorization process for our ophthalmology practice. This role combines insurance benefits verification with pre-certification and authorization responsibilities to ensure seamless patient care and optimal revenue cycle management.

· Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for all services including office visits, diagnostic testing, in-office procedures, injections, and facility-based surgeries

· Obtain necessary pre-certifications, authorizations, and pre-determinations based on insurance guidelines and payer requirements

· Prior to patient treatment determine, document, and prepare estimates for patient financial responsibility based on plan benefits, authorization requirements, deductibles, co-insurance, and out-of-pocket estimates

· Communicate benefit details and cost estimates clearly to patients and clinical staff

· Assess patient's ability to meet financial obligations and discuss payment arrangements, including financial assistance programs and identify alternative funding sources

· Provide assistance with completing financial assistance forms when needed

· Based on diagnosis, estimated insurance coverage, and financial assistance options, complete Patient Cost Estimate forms

· Review patient account balances and notify patients in advance of scheduled treatments

· Review, process, and audit medical necessity for each patient treatment

· Maintain comprehensive knowledge of authorization requirements for all payers and state/federal regulatory guidelines

· Research additional or alternative resources for non-covered services to prevent payment denials

· Provide prompt feedback to physicians and management regarding documentation and payer issues with non-covered treatments and procedures

· Perform accurate data entry to maintain and update demographic and authorization information in practice management systems

· Enter insurance details and documentation into practice management systems with precision

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payor policies, pre-authorization requirements, and ophthalmic coverage guidelines

· Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality in all communications and documentation

· Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· 1+ years of experience in insurance verification or healthcare revenue cycle

· Knowledge of medical insurance plans and benefits, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans

· Strong understanding of CPT/ICD-10 coding and medical terminology

· Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize under pressure

· Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills

· Comfortable working independently and managing multiple deadlines

· High school diploma or equivalent education required
