Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a reliable Prep Cook to assist with daily food preparation for dining hall services located at Presby and/or Newman Hall on the UIUC campus. This position is responsible for preparing ingredients, following recipes, maintaining a clean work area, and supporting the kitchen team to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and consistently. Position start date will be August 10th, 2026.

Responsibilities

Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, chopping, measuring, and portioning food.
Follow recipes and production schedules to prepare food for daily service and catered events.
Occasionally create salads
Label, date, and properly store food products.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area.
Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
Assist with stocking and organizing kitchen supplies.
Receive and put away deliveries as needed.
Assist line cooks and other kitchen staff during meal service.
Complete opening, closing, and cleaning duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Previous kitchen or food service experience preferred, but not required.
Ability to follow recipes and written instructions.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
Food Handler Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.

Schedule

Full-time and part-time positions available.
Morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required based on business needs.
Additional hours may be available for catered events and seasonal operations.
