Full Job Description

MUST HOLD A CURRENT NORTH CAROLINA CERTIFIED PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST (CPSS) CERTIFICATION.

Join our dedicated team as a Certified Peer Support Specialist, where you will play a vital role in empowering individuals navigating behavioral health challenges. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to provide compassionate, peer-led support that fosters recovery, resilience, and hope. As a key member of our mental health and addiction services team, you will utilize your lived experience and professional skills to guide clients through their recovery journey with empathy, understanding, and practical assistance. Your work will help create a supportive environment that promotes mental wellness and positive change.

Responsibilities

Offer peer-led support to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to foster engagement and motivation.
Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans, setting achievable goals, and identifying community resources.
Provide crisis intervention and crisis management when clients are experiencing acute distress or emergencies, ensuring safety and stabilization.
Share your lived experience to inspire hope, build trust, and promote behavioral health recovery pathways.
Document client interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy standards.
Collaborate with clinical staff, social workers, addiction counselors, and other team members to coordinate care plans and support services.
Mentor clients through behavioral health challenges by offering guidance, encouragement, and practical strategies for managing symptoms and triggers.

Experience

Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use recovery is essential; previous peer support or mentoring experience is highly valued.
Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management strategies to effectively respond to urgent situations.
Familiarity with behavioral health concepts, addiction counseling principles, and social work practices enhances your ability to support clients holistically.
Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate others through motivational interviewing and empathetic listening.
Experience working within EHR systems for documentation purposes ensures accurate record keeping and seamless care coordination.
Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or similar credential is preferred but not mandatory; ongoing training opportunities are available for growth.
