Position Summary
The Branch Manager is a sales leader responsible for growing the branch's deposits, treasury services, and commercial loan referral production while ensuring sound operational, compliance, and service standards. State Bank's strategic focus is on branch growth, and the Branch Manager is expected to actively call on owner-operators, CFOs, controllers, and other business decision-makers in the trade area. This is first and foremost a production role: the Branch Manager is accountable for achieving measurable sales goals through direct calling, centers of influence, and the coaching and accountability of branch staff. Operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and customer service are essential. The Branch Manager is expected to spend a meaningful portion of each week outside the branch in front of business prospects and clients.
Salary Range
$60,000 to $80,000 depending on skills and experience.
Sales and Business Development Responsibilities
This role carries individual and branch-level production goals weighted toward commercial and business banking outcomes. Goals are reviewed quarterly and are a primary factor in performance evaluations and incentive compensation.
- Achieve assigned production goals for new business deposit balances, treasury / cash management revenue, commercial loan referrals, and fee income on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Personally call on business prospects including owner-operators, CFOs, controllers, accountants, attorneys, and other commercial decision-makers, through outside calling, referral networks, and centers of influence.
- Build and execute a written business development plan each quarter, identifying target industries, named-account prospects, COIs, and pipeline activity, and review progress with the SVP / Chief Retail Officer.
- Sell treasury and cash management services, including analyzed business checking, sweep accounts, ACH origination, wire services, remote deposit capture, lockbox, positive pay, merchant services, and commercial cards.
- Refer commercial loan opportunities to the Commercial Lending team, including C&I, owner-occupied CRE, equipment financing, lines of credit, and SBA-eligible credits; partner with lenders on joint calls and deal structuring.
- Cultivate centers of influence with CPAs, attorneys, insurance agents, business brokers, commercial realtors, and industry associations to generate a steady flow of qualified business referrals.
- Maintain a visible B2B presence through Chamber of Commerce involvement, industry associations, civic organizations, non-profit boards, and business networking events in the trade area.
- Develop a sales-oriented branch model through training and coaching. The focus centered on converting consumer customers who are business owners, asking about treasury pain points, and making warm hand-offs to the Branch Manager or Commercial Lending team.
- Track and report pipeline activity weekly, including outside calls made, business prospect meetings, treasury proposals outstanding, loan referrals submitted, and closed business.
- Retain and expand existing business relationships through annual relationship reviews, treasury optimization conversations, and consultative needs analysis with key contacts.
- Monitor the local commercial market, including competitor pricing on analyzed accounts and treasury services, industry trends in the trade area, and emerging business needs; provide market intelligence to senior management.
Operational and Branch Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise branch staff, including hiring, scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, training, and corrective action, with an emphasis on a sales and service culture.
- Oversee daily branch operations, including teller transactions, business and consumer account opening, account servicing, IRA and HSA transactions, and customer issue resolution.
- Ensure regulatory and policy compliance, including BSA, AML, OFAC, Reg CC, Reg E, beneficial ownership / CDD requirements for business accounts, and currency transaction reporting.
- Maintain branch security and oversee opening, closing, cash controls, dual control procedures, and audit readiness.
- Manage optimal staffing levels and scheduling to balance service standards, business client appointment availability, efficiency, and budget.
- Oversee building maintenance and facility operations for the assigned location.
- Uphold State Bank's philosophies, core values, and ethical standards in every interaction with customers, employees, and the community.
Performance Expectations and Goal Structure
- Branch growth production goals are established annually by the SVP / Chief Retail Officer and reviewed quarterly. Goals will include, at minimum, targets for new business deposit dollars, treasury services revenue, commercial loan referrals, new business relationships acquired, and fee income.
- Outside calling activity is expected each week. The Branch Manager is expected to be visibly active calling on businesses in the trade area, not solely behind a desk.
- Branch sales results (staff business referrals, treasury cross-sell, and business household growth) are a direct reflection of the Branch Manager's coaching and accountability.
- Incentive compensation is tied directly to achievement of individual and branch commercial production goals, in accordance with the Bank's incentive plan.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated commercial banking sales experience.
- Minimum of three to five years of commercial or business banking experience, including a documented track record of meeting or exceeding business banking sales / production goals.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new relationships through outside calling on commercial prospects and centers of influence.
- Proven ability to train coach and counsel branch staff to achieve referral and potential sales goals.
- Working knowledge of business banking products, including analyzed business checking, treasury / cash management services, ACH and wire origination, remote deposit capture, merchant services, and commercial card programs.
- Basic understanding of commercial credit, business financial statements, and the commercial lending process sufficient to identify opportunities and partner effectively with lenders.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in core banking software, treasury onboarding platforms, Microsoft Office, and CRM / pipeline tracking tools.
- Demonstrated financial responsibility and ability to be bonded.
Preferred Qualifications
- Established book of business or active B2B centers of influence in the St. Louis market, particularly Clayton or South County.
- Experience with consultative / needs-based selling methodologies focused on business clients.
- Active involvement in business, civic, or industry associations such as Chambers of Commerce, trade groups, or non-profit boards with business membership.
