SCOPE

MUST HAVE CADC CERTIFICATION! <<<<DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IT!

CADC MEANS you passed the National Board Exam and is Certified by the Illinois Certification Board (IAOPAPCA) as a Certified Addiction Drug Counselor.

The Drug and Alcohol Counselor provides counseling and support to individuals and families experiencing addictions. This may include confidential individual, family or group counseling about the causes and effects of addictions support for families dealing with addictions and/or referrals to treatment for individuals requesting this opportunity. The Drug and Alcohol Counselor will also provide education to individuals and groups in the community with a focus on high-risk populations.

The Counselor will be familiar with other services and resources in the community and work closely to provide information and support when required. Failure to provide adequate service will have a significant impact on persons faced with addictions, their families and the community as a whole. Promoting a healthy, addictions free lifestyle will ensure the health and wellness of individuals, family members, and the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct comprehensive clinical assessment for individual seeking admission into the program.
Develop individualized treatment plan for individual admitted to the program.
Provide drug and alcohol counseling and support to individuals admitted to the program.
Provide counseling to individuals regarding the use and effects of alcohol and drugs.
Provide counseling to pregnant women about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the fetus.
Provide group counseling as requested.
Ensure legislation, standards, and guidelines are being followed.
Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
Access and collect relevant information and resources for clients as may be requested.
Provide Case Management to clients.
Provide Treatment referrals, as required
Assist individuals to identify their need for treatment.
Liaise with other treatment programs.
Maintain confidential written records of client interactions.
Participate in Peer Review and Quality Improvement Processes.
Participate in Accreditation and Re-Accreditation process.
Create and maintain current and accurate records of the numbers of clients served.
Maintain a resource library of information about addictions, prevention, and other related topics.

COMPETENCY

To perform the job successfully, the substance abuse counselor must demonstrate the following competencies:

Strong documentation and communication skills
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments
Ability to determine priorities
Proficiency in English grammar and composition
Strong interpersonal skills and professional attitude
