Full Job Description

The Dovetail Project is seeking a passionate, engaging, and culturally responsive Fatherhood Educator to support fathers and families across the Chicago metropolitan area through classroom instruction, mentorship, outreach, case support, and relationship-centered engagement. This role extends far beyond traditional classroom facilitation. The Fatherhood Educator serves on the front lines of father engagement — building trusted relationships with fathers while helping participants strengthen parenting skills, communication, accountability, emotional wellness, healthy relationships, and long-term family stability. The Fatherhood Educator will lead Dovetail’s fatherhood curriculum while also supporting participant engagement through mentorship, outreach, field-based support, community activities, home visits, and program engagement efforts. The ideal candidate understands that effective fatherhood work requires consistency, cultural responsiveness, professionalism, empathy, structure, and the ability to build trust with fathers from diverse life experiences and backgrounds. The Dovetail Project serves fathers from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds throughout Chicago. Candidates who are bilingual or multilingual and have experience engaging multicultural communities are strongly encouraged to apply. This role requires an educator who can facilitate meaningful conversations, maintain professional boundaries, support participant accountability, and serve as a positive and stable presence in the lives of fathers and families.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate and teach The Dovetail Project’s fatherhood curriculum through workshops, classroom instruction, discussions, activities, and participant engagement
Educate fathers on topics related to parenting, wellness, communication, healthy relationships, co-parenting, personal development, conflict resolution, and life skills
Serve as a mentor, facilitator, and trusted support person for fathers participating in Dovetail programming
Create a welcoming, respectful, structured, and engaging learning environment that encourages participation, accountability, and growth
Build authentic and professional relationships with fathers while maintaining consistent participant engagement and professional boundaries
Adapt facilitation styles and instructional approaches to meet varying learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and participant needs
Conduct outreach, recruitment, presentations, table talks, and community engagement activities designed to connect fathers to services and programming
Support participant engagement through field trips, community-based activities, partner site visits, and program-related events
Conduct participant follow-up and home visits, as appropriate, to support engagement and program retention
Assist with participant transportation and program logistics, including pick-up and drop-off responsibilities using organizational vehicles, as needed
Collaborate closely with case managers, program staff, leadership, and community partners to support participant success and family stability
Maintain accurate participant records, classroom notes, engagement tracking, and documentation using Salesforce and related systems
Complete professional documentation and case notes using DAP, SOAP, GRIP, or similar documentation methods
Support participant data collection, reporting, and program evaluation efforts using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method approaches
Utilize AI tools, digital systems, and communication platforms to improve lesson planning, workflow efficiency, participant communication, and program support
Stay informed on emerging trends related to fatherhood engagement, youth development, trauma-informed care, public health, and culturally responsive education
Represent The Dovetail Project professionally at community events, partner meetings, outreach initiatives, and public engagement opportunities
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Public Health, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field
Master’s degree preferred
Experience facilitating educational programs, workshops, support groups, youth development programs, fatherhood programs, mentoring initiatives, or community-based services preferred
Experience working with fathers, young adults, college-age students, or diverse community populations strongly preferred
Strong classroom management, facilitation, mentorship, and participant engagement skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to effectively engage fathers and families from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Bilingual or multilingual skills strongly preferred
Experience conducting outreach, community engagement, presentations, and participant recruitment preferred
Experience writing professional documentation and case notes using DAP, SOAP, GRIP, or similar documentation methods preferred
Understanding of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method data collection approaches preferred
Experience utilizing Salesforce or other participant tracking and case management systems preferred
Comfortable conducting home visits, field-based engagement, and community outreach throughout the Chicago metropolitan area
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple participant and program needs simultaneously
Demonstrated ability to utilize AI tools, digital systems, and communication technology to improve workflow efficiency and participant engagement
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to supporting fathers, strengthening families, and advancing community wellness
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
