School-Based Health Center Administrative Coordinator – full-time
The Community Health Center of the New River Valley is seeking a full-time (40 hours) Administrative Coordinator for its two school clinics.
This role will serve as the primary administrative support for the school-based health centers in both Pulaski and Montgomery counties. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient daily operations by coordinating patient registration, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, supporting billing processes, managing office communications, and providing exceptional customer service to students, families, school personnel, and healthcare staff.
The Administrative Coordinator plays a critical role in creating a welcoming, professional, and confidential environment while supporting the delivery of high-quality, integrated healthcare services within the school setting. This individual must have exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills and be a motivated self-starter.
Responsibilities may include:
- Learn and perform limited Medical Assistant support duties under the direction of licensed clinical staff and within the scope of organizational policy.
- Assist with room preparation, stocking exam rooms, cleaning equipment between patients, and maintaining clinical supplies.
- Become proficient in basic clinical workflows to improve coordination between administrative and clinical teams.
- Assist providers and patients in facilitating telehealth visits, including preparing equipment, connecting patients to the virtual platform, troubleshooting basic technical issues, and ensuring required documentation is completed.
- Prepare patients for telehealth appointments by verifying demographic and insurance information, obtaining required consent forms, and confirming the reason for the visit.
- Participate in required training and competency assessments for telehealth support and assigned Medical Assistant functions.
- Perform additional administrative or clinical support duties, as assigned, that are consistent with training, competency, and organizational needs. Some duties may be after school hours, i.e., attendance at a school athletic events/activities.
Qualifications:
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two years of administrative or medical office experience.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to learn electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred:
- Associate degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field.
- Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), pediatric practice, school-based health center, or community health center.
- Experience with electronic health records and medical scheduling.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and healthcare billing.
