Staff Tax Accountant (CPA, EA, or CPA Candidate)

Salary: $65,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, and demonstrated technical ability.

Join Our Team

We are an established public accounting firm serving individuals, businesses, trusts, estates, and nonprofit organizations throughout the St. Louis area. We are seeking an experienced Staff Tax Accountant to join our team.

We prepare a high volume of tax returns each year. Many are straightforward, while others involve complex tax issues that require research, problem-solving, and attention to detail. We're looking for someone who enjoys working efficiently, takes pride in producing accurate work, and is ready to grow with a stable, client-focused firm.

Responsibilities

· Prepare federal and state individual, business, trust, estate, gift, and nonprofit tax returns.

· Review client information and identify missing or inconsistent items.

· Prepare year-end adjusting journal entries and financial statements.

· Process payroll for business clients, including quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.

· Prepare and file sales tax returns and assist clients with sales tax compliance.

· Respond to IRS and state tax notices.

· Communicate with clients by phone, email, and in person.

· Assist with tax research and planning projects.

· Work with partners and staff to meet filing deadlines while maintaining accuracy.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.

· CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or CPA candidate strongly preferred.

· Recent public accounting tax experience preferred.

· Experience with professional tax software (Lacerte, Drake, UltraTax, or similar).

· Experience with QuickBooks Desktop and/or QuickBooks Online.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to manage multiple deadlines during tax season.

· Positive attitude, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
