Location: Remote (Ohio-Based — Statewide)

Type: Full-Time, 10-Month | Grant-Funded (Supplemental)

Salary: $55,000 – $65,000/year + benefits (commensurate with experience)

Grant-Funded Position Notice

This is a grant-funded, supplemental position funded through the FY2027 Title I Non-Competitive Supplemental School Improvement Grant (TI NC SSI) — Category 5: Supplemental Instruction: Mathematics. This position does not serve as a teacher of record and cannot fulfill core classroom instruction requirements.

We're a fully online dropout recovery and prevention high school serving students aged 14–21 who have fallen behind or disconnected from traditional education. Our students often present with significant academic gaps, credit deficiencies, and social-emotional barriers to learning and they deserve a specialist who meets them where they are. Through flexibility, compassion, and personalized support, we help students reclaim their path to graduation.

Note: While this is primarily a remote position, team members must attend in-person training and travel within Ohio to proctor required state assessments. This role also includes in-person student sessions as part of targeted math intervention support.

What You'll Do

As a Math Specialist, you'll deliver targeted, supplemental mathematics intervention to dropout recovery students. Working outside of core instruction, you'll deliver evidence-based mathematical intervention focused on improving student proficiency, supporting EOC readiness, and accelerating progress toward graduation. You are not a teacher of record; you are the specialist students turn to when they need focused, evidence-based support to cross the graduation stage. Your role will include:

Number Ninja: Deliver 1:1 and small group supplemental mathematics intervention to students identified as at-risk based on diagnostic assessment data, EOC scores, and credit gaps.
Standards Champion: Provide evidence-based mathematics instruction aligned to Ohio's Plan for 9-12 Mathematics, with a focus on Algebra I and foundational skills students need to succeed.
Data Detective: Use diagnostic and formative assessment data to identify individual student needs and continuously adjust intervention plans to drive progress.
Team Player: Collaborate with graduation coaches, counselors, and the Assistant Principal to coordinate intervention supports, share insights, and keep students moving forward.
Doceumentation Pro: Maintain detailed records of student participation, intervention strategies, and outcome data — reported on a schedule set by the Assistant Principal.
EOC Skill Builder: Support students in building skills aligned to the Algebra I EOC, including algebraic reasoning, linear functions, and problem-solving.
Coach Connector: Communicate regularly with students' assigned coaches about academic progress, attendance patterns, and any social-emotional concerns that may be affecting math achievement.
Professional Learner: Participate in required professional learning related to evidence-based mathematics intervention and ODEW-approved instructional frameworks.
Grant Compliance Reporter: Complete required time and effort tracking documentation as required by the grant and attend relevant school improvement meetings contributing to One Plan implementation activities as directed.
Testing Day Proctor: Travel within Ohio to approved testing locations to assist with proctoring required state assessments (STAR, EOC, and SAT).
Student Session Specialist: Conduct in-person student sessions as needed to deliver intensive literacy support, build rapport, and reinforce intervention strategies in face-to-face settings.

Who You Are

A skilled math educator who can break down complex concepts and meet students at their level with patience and creativity.
Experienced in working with at-risk, credit-deficient, or re-engagement youth populations.
Skilled at building trusting, supportive relationships with students who have faced barriers to academic success.
Strong in data literacy - you can analyze assessment results and use them to drive instructional decisions.
Organized and reliable in a fully remote work environment, with the flexibility to travel as needed.
Knowledgeable in trauma-informed and culturally responsive instructional practices.

What You'll Need

Required:

Valid Ohio teaching license, Mathematics.
Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based mathematics intervention practices aligned to Ohio's 9-12 Mathematics Plan.
Demonstrated experience working with at-risk, credit-deficient, or dropout recovery student populations.
Strong data literacy skills — ability to analyze student assessment data and use it to inform instructional decisions.
Familiarity with Ohio's Algebra I and mathematics EOC standards.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for in-person sessions and statewide travel.
Reliable high-speed internet connection and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
Residence in Ohio.

Preferred:

Experience in a dropout recovery, alternative, or community school setting.
Experience with high-dosage tutoring or intensive intervention models.
Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive instructional practices.
Licensed Mathematics Intervention Specialist preferred.

Grant Compliance Requirements

As a grant-funded position, this role carries specific compliance obligations that must be maintained throughout employment:

Time & Effort Tracking: The specialist must maintain accurate time and effort records tracking hours by building and by grant, as required by federal grant monitoring guidelines.
Outcome Documentation: Regular documentation of student outcomes tied to intervention activities is required and will be reviewed by leadership and grant monitors.
One Plan Alignment: All activities must align to the strategies and action steps outlined in ChallengeU's ESSA One Plan.
ESSA Evidence Level 1: Intervention strategies and materials used must meet ESSA Level 1 evidence standards. Levels 2–4 are not permitted under this grant.
Position Continuity: This position is funded annually through the grant. Continuation is contingent on grant renewal and demonstrated student outcomes.
