About the Role

We are looking for a smart, analytical, intellectually curious, and highly detail-oriented person to join our growing healthcare operations team as a Medical Biller.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong quantitative or analytical background who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and figuring out how things work. You do not need prior medical billing experience. We care more about how you think than whether you've worked in billing before.

You'll be responsible for submitting and managing claims to state Medicaid programs and Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), analyzing payment information, identifying discrepancies, resolving billing issues, and making sure we get paid accurately and on time.

If you're the type of person who notices when a number doesn't add up, enjoys Excel, and won't stop until you figure out why something isn't working, you'll probably love this role.

Key Responsibilities

Submit claims accurately and timely to state Medicaid programs and MCOs
Review claims and billing data for accuracy prior to submission
Monitor claim status and follow up on outstanding claims
Analyze denied, rejected, or underpaid claims and determine the root cause
Resubmit corrected claims and track them through payment
Review remittance advice and payment reports
Reconcile payments against submitted claims and expected reimbursement
Identify billing discrepancies and work to resolve them
Track accounts receivable and outstanding balances
Work with payer representatives to resolve billing issues
Ensure claims are consistent with authorizations, approved services, units, and payer requirements
Maintain accurate billing records and documentation
Build and maintain Excel reports and tracking tools
Analyze billing and operational data to identify trends, errors, and opportunities for improvement
Work closely with operations and intake teams to resolve issues affecting billing and reimbursement
Learn and stay current on Medicaid and MCO billing requirements and payer policies

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a quantitative, analytical, or technical field such as:

Mathematics
Economics
Finance
Statistics
Accounting
Data Science
Computer Science
Engineering
Physics
Chemistry
Other related quantitative or analytical disciplines

Preferred Skills

Advanced or intermediate Excel skills
Strong quantitative and analytical abilities
Comfort working with large datasets
Experience with formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis in Excel
Strong attention to detail
Ability to learn new software and systems quickly
Prior experience with healthcare, insurance, billing, or Medicaid is a plus, but not required
