Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Group Exercise Instructor specialized in Pilates to join our dynamic YMCA team. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Instructs Pilates format group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within the class. Modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.

Duties

Lead and instruct Pilates classes tailored to various skill levels, ensuring proper technique and safety.
Design and modify program routines to meet the diverse needs of participants, incorporating principles of physiology, anatomy, and body mechanics.
Incorporate complementary fitness disciplines such as yoga, cycling, CrossFit, or dance to enhance class variety and member engagement.
Educate participants on proper breathing techniques, posture alignment, and core engagement during exercises.
Monitor participant progress and provide personalized feedback to improve performance and prevent injury.
Promote a welcoming atmosphere that encourages participation and fosters community within the gym environment.
Assist with gym setup, equipment maintenance, and ensuring cleanliness of the studio area.
Support fitness sales efforts by promoting class packages and memberships to prospective clients.

Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current Mat Pilates Certification

2. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, AFAA, NETA,) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.

3. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.

4. At least one year of experience teaching Pilates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.

· Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.

· Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.

· Maintains neat and orderly group exercise class equipment, supervising members to return equipment in an orderly fashion, and operates the stereo equipment with care.

· Visually monitors class participants for their general condition, technique and ability to follow.

· Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.

· Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.

· Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.

· Keeps accurate class attendance records.

· Follows payroll procedures and is accurate in recording work hours.

· Follows all protocols for subbing requests when unable to work.

· Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

· Attends all staff meetings, required trainings and maintains relevant certifications required for the role.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

· Actively participate and support the Annual Campaign.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 – 8 per week
