The Director of Finance is a strategic and operational leader responsible for developing, scaling, and optimizing the company’s finance function. This role oversees all financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, tax compliance, cash management, and financial planning & analysis. The Director of Finance plays a critical role in driving financial performance by establishing strong processes, ensuring compliance, improving cash flow, and delivering data-driven insights that support executive decision-making. This position is responsible for building a high-performing finance team and implementing systems and controls that support sustainable growth.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Finance Function Leadership & Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance team across accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, and financial analysis
Cash Management & Financial Strategy
- Lead all aspects of cash flow management, forecasting, and liquidity planning
- Monitor daily and long-term cash position, identifying risks and opportunities
- Optimize working capital, including AR, AP, and inventory management strategies
- Oversee capital expenditures, investments, and financing strategies
- Develop long-term financial plans and forecasts aligned with business objectives
Financial Planning, Analysis & Decision Support
- Provide strategic financial insights to executive leadership to support decision-making
- Develop and maintain financial models for forecasting, scenario planning, and investment analysis
- Analyze profitability, margins, and cost structures across operations, customers, and products
- Support pricing strategies, cost reduction initiatives, and capital allocation decisions
- Evaluate financial risks and develop mitigation strategies
Accounting, Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and all regulatory requirements
- Manage external audits and coordinate with auditors and tax advisors
- Oversee tax planning and compliance, ensuring all federal, state, and local obligations are met
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud
- Implement access controls and financial governance policies
- Monitor financial risks and ensure appropriate controls and mitigation strategies are in place
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements
Systems, Processes & Efficiency
- Implement and optimize financial systems, ERP platforms, and reporting tools
- Drive automation and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Standardize financial reporting and dashboards for leadership visibility
- Continuously evaluate and improve finance workflows and controls
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with operations, sales, and executive leadership to align financial strategy with business goals
- Provide department leaders with financial insights and performance metrics to drive accountability
- Present financial results and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and board members
- Serve as a key advisor on financial performance, risks, and opportunities
- Establish scalable processes, procedures, and structure for the finance department
- Drive continuous improvement through implementation of best practices, automation, and technology
- Ensure clear roles, accountability, and performance expectations across all finance functions
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
- 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with leadership responsibility
- Proven experience building or leading a full-cycle finance function
- Strong background in financial planning & analysis, cash management, and accounting operations
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and Excel
Preferred:
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred

- Finance Function Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build, structure, and develop accounting and finance teams (AP, AR, GL, tax, FP&A)
- Cash Flow & Working Capital Expertise: Deep understanding of liquidity management and cash optimization strategies
- Strategic Financial Thinking: Ability to connect financial data to business strategy and drive decision-making
- Financial Modeling & Forecasting: Strong capability in long-term planning, scenario analysis, and budgeting
- GAAP & Compliance Knowledge: Strong technical accounting knowledge and regulatory compliance experience
- Process Improvement Mindset: Proven ability to implement systems, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency
- Risk Management: Ability to identify financial risks and implement effective mitigation strategies
- Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights
- Leadership & Accountability: Strong leadership presence with the ability to drive performance and ownership
- Attention to Detail & Accuracy: Ensures integrity of financial data while maintaining strategic perspective
- Technology & Systems Proficiency: Experience leveraging ERP systems and financial tools to drive insights
- Time Management: Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
