Full Job Description

A few things to get out of the way real quick.

You must be a licensed nurse or CNA, with an active (unexpired) CO license
This is part time/PRN support to fill in around our other caregivers so my grandmother has coverage 7 days a week.
This is a position that requires you to be in person and available on the following days, M-F and rotating weekend support. It will not necessarily be every weekend but we do need some support on weekends.
The hours are generally a full shift or partial shift between the hours of: 9-7, 9:00-2:30pm, 9:30-5:30, 3:00pm-8:00pm or some combination based on the other care team members availability to cover her morning and evening medication needs and/or supervised meals.
This is somewhat flexible in what you will be doing during the day, but you will be a bit on call so-to-speak when you are on shift to go with what my grandmother needs.
You will need a car that is less than 8 years old (2018 or newer), comfortable, safe, and in good condition to drive her on your outings.
We are looking for a companion/caregiver who has senior care experience, specifically with memory care
This is primarily companion & safety management (being present when she needs to take meds (medication administration) and making sure she is eating) with a sprinkling of getting out and staying active. She is a Texas firecracker so very mobile, smart, loves to chit chat, but can be stubborn and definitely has her own opinions/ideas of what to do even though she has early memory issues and sometimes doesn't fully know what is what.

In a nutshell, we are close knit, small family who is looking for care for our beloved 90 year old matriarch who is widowed but is still very active. She is acclimated to life on her own and managing the house without him but is in need of care and companionship.

You love taking care of others and making sure our grandmother is taken care of and the household operations are running like a well oiled machine that ultimately helps her feel more at ease and happy in her day to day life without my grandfather.

You are someone who is very patient, caring, understanding and who has a tremendously empathetic heart for someone who is still adjusting to life on her own for the first time after being married for 65 years.

We are looking for someone to really partner with our current caregiving team, who we love, to support them and help us make sure my grandmother is getting the care and companionship she deserves.

What that means is wearing the hat of companion, assistant, maybe sometimes cook or household tidier, and driver to get her where she needs to go on time and most importantly get her out of the house to go on adventures!

You are OK being 1:1 and working with me (the Granddaughter and my father) and our current caregivers to support her and help her have the best years for as long as she is here with us.

You are an ambivert who loves to chit chat and also help empower my grandmother to get out and do things to keep her body and mind active. Luckily we have Lucy, our sweet Kelpie pup who loves going with my Grandmother on walks.

You are a quick learner who is great at taking direction and execution, but also take the ball and runs with it to create even better solutions than we have thought of to make sure she is cared for.

You are also good at working with someone who can act stubborn and can sometimes manipulates truth (aka confuses facts with fiction due to her memory)

You believe in the pursuit of excellence. Not just getting something done, but rising to the occasion and bringing your best to each interaction you have with us.

You are looking for a place and family to call home, not just your next paycheck.

Lastly, you need to be comfortable with having a deep background check, drug testing, and driving records pulled.

Requirement: CNA or in home care license.

What you'll be doing:

Assisting/Household management

Checking the mail
Grocery shopping
Laundry
Light housekeeping/tidying
A small amount of cooking or food prep so she has someone to eat with and cook with.
Some random household items like assisting with watering the plants
Meeting vendors that come to the house (ie lawn folks, plumber, etc)
Taking the dog to the vet or groomer if needed
Making sure the dog has been fed and watered

Caregiving/companionship

Making sure she is taking her medications and vitamins - she forgets and is not compliant to do it on her own
Going for a daily walk with the dog (Lucy) and getting out of the house
Maybe taking her to an art exhibit or something fun ... again to get her out of the house and keeping her active.

Why you should be interested in this role:

This role is an integral part of our family support system and to support our care team. My father and I need the support on the home front to help us since we cannot be there 24/7. We are there very often, but in between visits is where the challenges are starting to happen more and more frequently.

Without you and your care, the wheels of family bus would fall off and I worry for my grandmother because we are all spread so thin.

You will be helping us, make sure that we are supporting my grandmother in the best way possible even when we are not there so she can live a full and happy life.

You'll be working closely with me and my dad, so we will all be working together to make sure she has the support she needs. We are looking to you to communicate with us if she needs something or if you are having a challenge you need our support on. Having someone who is a good and effective communicator in this role is key!

Why this job is important:

Our matriarch is our heart. She has lived an amazing life and is still full of life but she is slowing down and having a hard time adjusting since my grandfather passed. I know she is lonely and I also know that sometimes family is annoying in ways that an objective third party isn't.

We need someone that will be a partner with her, not necessarily doing everything for her, but helping her get stay young at heart and in mind. We want to maintain her independence and confidence as long as we can.

Bottom Line:

Compensation:

Hourly compensation starts at $25/ hour depending on your experience level so we are open to compensation that is a win-win. We want to find the right fit more than anything.
