The Children’s Ministry Director (CMD) will help develop and lead a creative, comprehensive ministry for children from birth through 5th grade, supporting families as they learn and live the Christian faith. The Children’s Ministry Director (CMD) will have a dotted line responsibility, report to, and be supervised by the Education Ministry Elders, coordinate and work with the Youth Ministry Director (YMD), with direct line employment responsibility to the Sr. Pastor/Head of Staff.
Key Responsibilities:Ministry Leadership & Support
o Pray first and always.
o Seek to maintain a vibrant personal faith in Christ through spiritual disciplines, such as prayer and Scripture reading.
o Seek the Lord’s guidance and strength in shepherding this ministry.
o Pray for the children, families, and leadership of Grace
o Serve as a Christlike example in words, speech, behavior, and social media, treating all children, parents, volunteers, and staff with respect.
o Lead a creative, comprehensive ministry for children from birth through 5th grade, supporting families as they learn and live the Christian faith.
o Partner with Grace’s mission to provide excellent and engaging Christian education that equips and involves parents.
o Collaborate with church leadership to develop and implement age-appropriate biblical curriculum for nursery through 5th grade, creating a consistent pathway of spiritual growth and biblical understanding.
o Cultivate a ministry culture where learning and growing in the Christian faith is fun, challenging, rewarding, and spiritually formative for children.
o Manage Children’s Ministry programs in close coordination with the YMD, ensuring alignment with the larger mission of Grace and timely, effective program execution.
o Work closely with the YMD, Senior Pastor, and Education Ministry Team, including Elders, receiving support and collaborating to strengthen ministry efforts.
o Form and lead a Children’s Council of parents and lay volunteers to offer insight, feedback, and structural support.
o Pursue personal and professional growth through continuing education, ECO connections, and relationships with other Children’s Ministry leaders in the Columbus area
Volunteer Management
o Recruit, oversee training, schedule, supervise, and support Nursery Assistants, Children’s Ministry volunteers, and interns—equipping them for success in their assigned roles.
o Oversee and develop Nursery Assistants in alignment with Grace’s Child Protection Policy and Nursery Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
o Ensure all volunteers adhere to ministry standards, policies, background checks, and safe practices.
o Report to the Sr. Pastor and Education Ministry Team on program and event outcomes, feedback, and areas of growth to ensure effective stewardship of time and resources.
Child & Family Engagement
o Actively build relationships with families, inviting them into Grace’s Children’s Ministry and partnering with parents and grandparents in the discipleship of their children.
o Teach, mentor, and inspire children through Bible study, prayer, worship, fellowship, mission experiences, and meaningful, age-appropriate activities.
o Meet children where they are emotionally and spiritually, sharing in their joys and concerns while encouraging their growth in faith.
o Develop and oversee weekly discipleship programs on Sunday mornings and additional ministry offerings such as Wednesday night programs, Home Groups, after-school activities, “Parent’s Night Out,” and children’s musical programs.
o Plan and execute major Children’s Ministry events such as VBS, Worship Arts Camp, Fall Festival, Advent workshops, and seasonal celebrations in coordination with YMD, staff, and Covenant partners.
o Plan and lead Nursery and Children’s Ministry service opportunities.
o Keep parents informed of classes, activities, and events in a clear, timely, and coordinated manner.
o Keep the broader church updated on the activities and successes of the Children’s Ministry.
Administration & Operations
o Communicate and promote Children’s Ministry programs through emails, newsletters, bulletins, the church calendar, and social media.
o Oversee all marketing and communication related to Children’s Ministry—including website updates, promotional materials, and social media content—in partnership with the YMD, Communication Deacon, and Office Administrator.
o Assist in preparing and developing the annual Children’s Ministry budget and stewarding ministry resources responsibly.
Safety & Excellence
o Maintain a high standard of professionalism in conduct, appearance, and ministry leadership.
o Ensure Nursery Assistants and all volunteers operate in full alignment with Grace’s Child Protection Policy and Nursery Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
o Foster a safe, nurturing, and excellence-driven environment for children, families, and volunteers.
Qualifications and Attributes:
The Children’s Ministry Director should be familiar with and willing to adhere to the ECO Essential Tenets, value the concept of team ministry, accept the direction and counsel of the Education Ministry Team, Elders, and ministry colleagues.
· Vital relationship with Jesus Christ, with spiritual maturity and high moral and ethical conduct.
· A college degree or be in the process of pursuing a degree. (Preferred, but not required)
· At least 3 years of experience working in Children’s Ministry or similar field
· The ability to teach the Bible and the Christian faith in a manner suitable for Children’s Ministry.
· The ability to relate to children and parents in an appropriate manner.
· A friendly and flexible team approach.
· Good organizational, administrative, and computer/technology skills.
· An understanding of physical, cognitive, and spiritual child development.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Employment Details:
· The Children’s Associate position requires time on Sunday mornings, some weekday evenings (likely Wednesday), and Children’s Programs i.e. VBS, Worship Arts Camp, etc., weekly staff meetings
· Required:
o A Criminal Background Check (completed by Grace Presbyterian)
o Professional and Personal References
o A Valid Driver’s License.
o A Drug Test
o Physical Requirements include ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry 25-30 lbs., bend, kneel, and move frequently, arrange tables and chairs, help set up/clean up for events.
o The position is full-time.
