Job Summary:
The Adult Education Instructor (Part-Time) provides high-quality educational instruction and workforce readiness training to adult learners pursuing High School Equivalency (HSE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), basic literacy and numeracy skill development, and career preparation through the Work Readiness Academy. This part-time position delivers dynamic classroom, small group, and individualized instruction in academic content areas (reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, computer literacy, and language acquisition) as well as structured career development curriculum that prepares students for employment with partner employers or further education and training. The instructor creates individual learning plans, monitors student progress, facilitates engaging career readiness workshops, maintains accurate documentation, and fosters a welcoming, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment that promotes student engagement, persistence, and success in both education and employment pathways.

Responsibilities:
Academic Instruction & Adult Education
- Provide educational instruction to adult students in classroom, small group, individual, and hybrid/online settings across assigned content areas including reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, computer literacy, and/or English language acquisition.
- Develop, plan, and facilitate lesson plans that align with adult learning principles, Ohio ASPIRE standards, and program curriculum, incorporating differentiated instruction to meet the varying needs of adult learners with diverse learning styles, skill levels, disabilities, and special needs.
- Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction using a variety of instructional strategies including direct instruction, collaborative learning, project-based activities, technology-enhanced learning, and real-world application.
- Review and interpret assessment data from TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems), CLAS-E, and other standardized assessments to understand student skill levels and learning needs.
- Create and update individualized learning plans (ILPs) for each student, prescribing a personalized program of learning based on assessment results, student goals, and skill development priorities.
- Coach and support students in developing short-term and long-term educational goals, career aspirations, and transition plans for post-secondary education, workforce training, or employment.
- Adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to support adult learners at multiple skill levels within the same classroom, ensuring all students receive appropriate challenge and support.
- Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, organized, and culturally responsive physical and/or virtual learning environment that promotes student comfort, engagement, and academic success.
- Use technology and digital learning platforms effectively to support instruction, enhance student learning, and facilitate remote or hybrid learning when applicable.
Student Support, Progress Monitoring & Data Management
- Monitor student progress toward educational and career goals through ongoing formative assessments, observation, portfolio review, competency tracking, and performance evaluation.
- Provide regular feedback to students regarding their progress, strengths, areas for growth, and strategies for continued improvement in both academic and career readiness competencies.
- Adjust instructional strategies and learning plans based on ongoing assessment of student progress, learning needs, and goal attainment.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for student questions, concerns, and issues, providing timely and supportive responses that address barriers to learning and success.
- Provide valuable feedback to internal partners and program leadership regarding student barriers, trends, successes, and areas for program improvement.
- Refer students to agency support services including case management, career coaching, Client Success team, testing services, and community resources to address barriers and support holistic student success.
- Foster strong and collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and program staff to create a supportive learning community.
Documentation, Reporting & Recordkeeping
- Complete required documentation and reports for students in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring compliance with program, funder, and state requirements.
- Track and record student attendance for each class session, maintaining accurate attendance records and reporting absences or attendance concerns as required.
- Create and maintain student portfolios (physical and digital) documenting student work, progress, assessments, and achievement milestones.
- Monitor and review student work, providing written and verbal feedback to support learning and goal achievement.
- Enter student data, attendance, progress, and outcome information into case management systems with accuracy and timeliness as required by program policies.
- Maintain real-time updates of student data in CRM system to ensure accurate program tracking and reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with program policies and applicable regulations.
- Communicate and coordinate with the Adult Education Instructional Lead, program coordinators, and support staff regarding student progress, challenges, and needs.
Professional Development & Program Engagement
- Participate in required professional development, training sessions, and new instructor orientation within the first 90 days of employment.
- Attend monthly instructor meetings, professional development workshops, and agency training sessions as assigned to enhance instructional skills and stay current with best practices in adult education and workforce development.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training to stay at the forefront of adult education, career coaching, and workforce readiness instruction.
- Collaborate with other instructors, program staff, and leadership to share resources, strategies, and best practices that support student success and program quality.
- Assist in the development, planning, and execution of special projects and events including student orientations, graduations, celebrations, and community engagement activities.
- Participate in curriculum development and instructional improvement initiatives as requested by program leadership.
- Stay current with Ohio ASPIRE policies, adult education standards, workforce development trends, and instructional best practices through ongoing learning and professional development.
- Participate in agency meetings and committees as assigned to contribute to organizational goals and initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support effective program operations and student success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in education, adult education, TESOL, English, mathematics, workforce development, career counseling, or related field preferred; or Associate degree with significant teaching or training experience in adult education, workforce training, career coaching, or secondary education.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of teaching, training, or coaching experience with adults or secondary students preferred; demonstrated ability to engage adult learners and facilitate effective instruction and career development.
- Experience teaching adults in a school environment or successful experience as a 7-12 instructor in the areas of math, language arts, social studies, or science preferred.
- Experience delivering career development training, workforce readiness instruction, or employability skills training strongly preferred.
- Experience working with diverse adult populations including English language learners, individuals with learning disabilities, adults facing barriers to education and employment, job seekers, and individuals from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles, differentiated instruction, learner-centered teaching strategies, career coaching techniques, and trauma-informed practices.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, facilitate engaging discussions, and engage students with varying literacy and language levels.
- Ability to create individualized learning plans, assess student progress, adapt instruction to meet diverse learner needs, and facilitate career exploration and goal setting.
- Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, virtual learning platforms, digital literacy tools, and online instructional resources.
- Experience with case management systems or student information systems preferred; experience with CRM platforms strongly preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required by program schedule and student needs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and balance academic instruction with career readiness training.

- Ability to speak languages in addition to English (e.g., Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Nepali) strongly preferred.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
