About us
We are an AI software-as-a-service company providing operational camera monitoring for dairy farms. Our IP camera systems help dairy operations improve visibility and efficiency through intelligent monitoring technology. We support more than 150 dairy farms and are expanding across North America.
Position overview
We are hiring an AgTech Field Camera Systems Technician for a travel-intensive, full-time role on our field team. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial IP camera systems and related networking and server equipment at dairy farm sites, working independently on-site with strong documentation and communication standards.
This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for seasoned professionals with proven commercial camera and low-voltage experience, sound judgment in agricultural environments, and the ability to balance mostly intensive field work with occasional structured remote support from home.
You must be based in the greater Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area. You will cover the Great Lakes and Midwest heavily, with regional and national travel as scheduled. Work is approximately 75-85% on-site field work and 15-25% remote support; in busy install periods, travel can meet or exceed 85% of your time for the month. Field days are commonly 8-12 hours and can run longer when required to complete a site safely. Assigned driving legs may be up to 8 hours or 500 miles one-way when approved and planned. You must be comfortable with ladders, attics, elevated and confined spaces, dust, humidity, and extended time behind the wheel between sites.
What you'll do
Advanced field installation
- Deploy and troubleshoot commercial IP cameras (UniFi Protect, Reolink, and legacy platforms such as Hikvision, Axis, Dahua, and similar where installed) and Ubiquiti wireless (access points, nanobeam-class links) in agricultural environments.
- Run and terminate Cat6 cabling in demanding conditions; install cable support, conduit, and weatherproof enclosures as the site requires.
- Install, configure, and verify PoE switches and related network equipment.
- Configure Linux / Debian on-site recording and management servers; confirm cameras are online, recording, and reporting before departure.
- Log credentials, IP addressing, and configuration details per company standard.
Travel and project execution
- Travel extensively on a Monday-Friday schedule with overnight stays as assigned; flights, hotels, and meals for regional and national assignments are covered by the company.
- Maintain a reliable personal vehicle for regional travel; business mileage is reimbursed per company policy, tracked and reported accurately.
- Manage regional equipment needs and maintain professional-grade installation tools; request replenishment when required.
Technical excellence
- Diagnose and resolve camera, PoE, cabling, and network issues on-site and during maintenance visits; document findings and resolutions in Redmine.
- On remote-focused days, support tickets via SSH, TeamViewer / AnyDesk, and related tools; keep tickets updated and prepare for upcoming field work.
What we're looking for
Essential technical qualifications
- Three or more years of experience installing and troubleshooting commercial IP camera systems in industrial, commercial, or agricultural environments.
- Solid TCP/IP networking, switching, VLAN familiarity, and Ubiquiti-class (or equivalent) wireless deployment.
- Linux / Debian installation, configuration, and day-to-day administration sufficient for on-site server work.
- Cat6 installation, termination, testing, and certification in real building and farm-adjacent conditions.
- Residence in the Columbus, Ohio metro area at time of hire (or relocation completed before start date).
Equipment and transportation
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
- Reliable personal vehicle suitable for frequent regional driving.
- Professional low-voltage hand tools; annual tool allowance per company policy toward maintaining and replacing professional-grade equipment.
Professional skills
- Ability to work autonomously after onboarding to company protocols, documentation, and safety expectations.
- Strong written and spoken English for farm personnel and internal teams.
- Commitment to first-visit quality: clean cable work, labeled plant, verified operation, and accurate, on-time time entries.
Preferred qualifications
- Strong general networking background beyond cameras alone - comfort designing and troubleshooting switched access, PoE budgets, VLANs, and point-to-point wireless (for example Ubiquiti Nanobeam and similar links) in support of large IP camera deployments.
- Low-voltage licensing or industry credentials (BICSI, NICET, or similar).
- Commercial conduit installation experience.
- Extended experience with Linux administration or deep remote troubleshooting.
- Spanish language skills are a plus for some crews and sites; not required.
Why this role is unique
- Elite technical team: Join a small, experienced field organization supporting a large and growing installed base of dairy camera systems.
- High-impact work: Your work is visible the same day - systems online, recording, and documented for the next tech or engineer.
- Professional growth: Opportunities to lead larger rollouts, mentor newer technicians, and deepen specialization as the company scales.
Compensation and benefits
- W-2 non-exempt hourly employment, with competitive pay discussed during the interview process.
- Overtime paid in accordance with federal law and Ohio law, where applicable.
- Mileage reimbursement for approved business driving per company policy.
- Company-paid travel expenses (airfare, lodging, and meals) for approved assignments away from home.
- Annual tool allowance per company policy.
- Additional benefits and paid time off are summarized in the offer package and company handbook.
Schedule and work environment
- Monday through Friday; daily start and end times vary with travel and installation schedules.
- Approximately 75-85% field installations and maintenance at dairy farms and 15-25% remote ticket support and preparation from home.
- Expect heavy travel in peak periods; overnight travel is a normal part of the role.
