Armor Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Scheduler to manage the daily scheduling and staffing of our nursing team at our Franklin County facility.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining nursing schedules, filling open shifts, coordinating call-offs and time-off requests, contacting staff to secure coverage, managing PRN availability, and keeping staffing coverage accurate and up to date.

What You'll Be Doing
Scheduling Is the Core of This Role
You will own the nursing schedule and make sure shifts are appropriately staffed.
- Create, maintain, and publish daily, weekly, and monthly nursing schedules
- Schedule RNs and LPNs across multiple shifts
- Fill open shifts and identify uncovered shifts before they become staffing problems
- Coordinate schedule changes resulting from PTO, call-offs, FMLA, military leave, training, orientation, vacancies, and other absences
- Contact available employees and PRN staff to secure shift coverage
- Make last-minute scheduling changes when coverage needs change
- Maintain accurate schedules and staffing records
- Monitor upcoming schedules to identify potential staffing shortages
- Coordinate replacement coverage when an employee calls off
- Communicate schedule changes clearly and promptly to employees and leadership
Staff Scheduling & Coverage
A major part of this position is finding the right person to cover the right shift.
You will:
- Maintain an updated list of employee and PRN availability
- Coordinate available staff to fill open shifts
- Contact PRN nurses regarding available shifts
- Track who is available, scheduled, working, or unavailable
- Coordinate coverage for unexpected call-offs
- Work with nursing leadership to resolve difficult coverage situations
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels across all scheduled shifts
- Use internal staffing resources before utilizing outside agency staff whenever possible
Schedule Management
You will continuously monitor the schedule and make adjustments as staffing needs change.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing schedules for gaps and errors
- Identifying future staffing shortages
- Tracking vacancies and open shifts
- Coordinating schedule changes
- Monitoring overtime caused by staffing gaps
- Tracking PRN utilization
- Monitoring agency utilization
- Maintaining accurate staffing information
- Escalating unresolved staffing concerns to nursing leadership
PRN & Per Diem Scheduling
You will play an important role in coordinating our PRN nursing workforce.
- Maintain a current PRN availability roster
- Communicate available shifts to PRN staff
- Match available PRN staff with open shifts
- Coordinate PRN assignments
- Build positive relationships with PRN employees to encourage continued availability
- Verify required credentials before scheduling assignments
- Track PRN utilization and availability
Timekeeping & Staffing Information
You will work with staffing and payroll information to ensure schedules accurately reflect operational needs.
You will maintain and prepare reports such as:
- Daily Staffing Reports
- Open Shift Reports
- Vacancy Reports
- Overtime Reports
- Agency Utilization Reports
- PRN Utilization Reports
- Call-Off Reports
- Staffing Trend Reports
Communication
You will communicate regularly with employees and leadership regarding scheduling and staffing.
You will work closely with:
- Nurses and PRN staff
- Health Services Administrator
- Director of Nursing
- Regional Leadership
- Human Resources
- Recruiting
- Staffing agencies
You must be comfortable calling, emailing, and communicating with employees to obtain staffing coverage when needed.
Staffing Compliance
Before scheduling an employee, you will verify that required credentials and qualifications are current, including:
- Professional license
- CPR certification
- Required education
- Security clearance
You will maintain confidentiality and follow organizational and facility requirements when scheduling staff.
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
- 2+ years of scheduling, staffing, or workforce coordination experience
- Healthcare scheduling or staffing experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing employee schedules across multiple shifts
- Experience coordinating call-offs, open shifts, PTO, or other schedule changes
- Experience using electronic scheduling, workforce management, or payroll systems
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple scheduling issues simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of staffing needs
Healthcare Scheduling Experience Is a Plus

- Experience coordinating PRN, per diem, float pool, or contingent staff
- Experience with OnShift, Paylocity or similar scheduling systems
- Experience managing healthcare staffing coverage
- Experience monitoring overtime or agency utilization
- Correctional healthcare experience
- RN license
