About the Opportunity

A growing behavioral health and substance use treatment organization is seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Operations / Assistant Executive Director to join its executive leadership team. This confidential opportunity is ideal for a dynamic leader who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and is passionate about operational excellence, employee engagement, and delivering exceptional patient care.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations / Assistant Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the facility while ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and employee engagement. This executive leader partners closely with the Executive Director to implement strategic initiatives, improve operational efficiency, and foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

This position serves as a key operational leader and is expected to maintain a visible presence throughout the facility while supporting department leaders and ensuring organizational goals are achieved.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide operational leadership for multiple departments within the organization.
Partner with the Executive Director to execute strategic initiatives and organizational objectives.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards.
Monitor census, admissions, staffing, patient flow, and operational performance metrics.
Lead, coach, and develop department directors and managers to achieve operational excellence.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and the overall patient experience.
Collaborate with Human Resources on recruitment, retention, employee relations, and performance management.
Assist with budget planning, expense management, and resource allocation.
Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and outstanding customer service.
Participate in leadership meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and organizational planning.
Respond to operational concerns and serve as Administrator-on-Call as needed.
Build and maintain positive relationships with referral sources, vendors, and community partners.
Lead special projects and organizational initiatives assigned by executive leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field required.
Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health, healthcare, or substance use treatment.
Experience leading multiple departments in a healthcare environment.
Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards.
Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams and lead organizational change.
Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare technology systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Behavioral health or substance use treatment experience.
Experience with residential treatment programs.
Experience preparing for or participating in accreditation or regulatory surveys.
Knowledge of quality improvement and performance management initiatives.
