PLANT MAINTENANCE ENGINEER I

$19.96/hour - $26.41/hour
This position receives Hazardous Duty Pay, which is paid biweekly at $60 (not included in salary above).
Schedule:
6:30-2:30 with Sundays and Mondays off

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Facility Logistical Services has a full-time vacancy for Plant Maintenance Engineer.
Summary:
Performs responsible technical and supervisory work in directing a program of building maintenance and heating plant operations at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men and other related work as required, working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis, having responsibility for security.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience : Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in engineering, building trades, maintenance, repair or construction of buildings, 1 year of which must have been in a supervisory level position.
License/Certification:
Valid Driver’s License access to transportation for statewide travel.
Other Requirements:
1. Must pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments
2. Must be available for on call through rotating schedule for off hour’s coverage to respond to emergencies and requests for timely assistance, in accordance with departmental policy.
3. Must be willing to work an extended and/or flexible schedule, to include nights and weekends for emergency response to needs at the facilities. May be required to report for work with little notice due to emergencies.
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 2+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in ‘trainee status’ for this position.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy within 12 months of hire and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.

Responsibilities:
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
Provides supervision of inmates in the performance of boiler and HVAC maintenance activities.
Performs complex work in planning, supervising and actively participating in a program of building maintenance and heating plant operations to ensure that all work meets federal, state, local and ACA Standards.
Repairs, rebuilds, sets-up or relocates plant operating systems, equipment and machinery as necessary to assure that all safety and security requirements are met.
Administers initiative and good judgement in supervision of all building maintainers and mechanics assigned to maintenance projects. Reviews work of inmate workers to assure adherence to plans, specifications and standards.
Prepares and updates maintenance records and follows preventive maintenance schedules to extend the operating life of equipment.
Compiles annual budgetary requirements for the maintenance department so that all supplies and equipment can be obtained to complete all work orders and maintain existing buildings.
Controls the issuance of equipment, supplies and materials to perform maintenance operation activities while maintaining security and completing all work orders.
