Full Job Description

The Town of Wethersfield invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Town Clerk. This key leadership role performs all duties and responsibilities as stated in the Town Charter, Code of Ordinances, and Chapter 92 of the State of Connecticut General Statutes, alongside other relevant regulations. This position manages various administrative, supervisory and professional task, such as preparing and maintaining official municipal documents, issuing various licenses and permits, and recording various documents and vital statistics.

Examples of Specific Duties:

Plans, supervises and evaluates activities of the Office of the Town Clerk.
Exercises all authority provided to, and meets all responsibilities imposed upon, Town Clerks by local and state law.
Serves as custodian of the official Town seal and official municipal records, including the charter, ordinances, oaths, appointments, petitions, budgets, audits, annual reports, land records, surveys, and maps.
Maintains and distributes official notices, agendas, minutes, ordinances, and advertisements, including posting notices for meetings of local government bodies and validating official documents.
Prepares and presents a proposed annual budget for the Office of Town Clerk; implements the adopted budget.
Accounts for all public monies associated with duties, for example, permit fees, recording fees, conveyance taxes, etc. received by him/her.
Administers election-related responsibilities in accordance with state law, including administering oaths of office for elected and appointed officials and supporting the Registrar of Voters as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, records management, or a related field preferred.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in municipal government, records management, or a Town Clerk's office.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered
Certification as Town/City Clerk, or prior experience and knowledge of accepted administrative practices related to the duties of the position.
Certification as Notary Public within six months.
Valid, active Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required
