Shift Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm)

Purpose of this position:

The Court Clerk IV provides administrative and clerical support within the Civil/Family/Mental Health Division of the County Clerk’s Office. This position assists the public, legal professionals, and court personnel by processing legal filings, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring procedures are carried out in accordance with departmental standards and statutory requirements. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a commitment to professional, timely customer service.

Primary Job Duties

· Process, review, and file civil, mental, and family-related documents in accordance with statutory requirements and office procedures.

· Assist customers in person, by phone, and through electronic communication with general information regarding filings, fees, and procedural next steps.

· Maintain accurate and organized records, indexes, logs, and filing systems.

· Verify the completeness and correctness of submitted paperwork and identify missing information requiring correction.

· Prepare and issue certified copies and other official court ‑ related documents as authorized.

· Enter and update case information in relevant systems with accuracy and timeliness.

· Assist attorneys, pro se filers, and members of the public with general questions related to civil and probate filings.

· Coordinate with judges, court coordinators, and internal staff as needed to support daily operations.

· Handle financial transactions such as filing fees, copy fees, and other statutory charges; balance drawer and maintain accurate payment records.

· Provide support during high ‑ volume periods and assist team members to maintain efficient workflow.

· Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with state laws, office policies, and procedural requirements.

· Perform additional duties as assigned within the Civil/Family/Mental Health Division .

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements

· Must be able to work in person; this position is not remote

· High School Diploma or GED

· Prior clerical, administrative, court, legal, or customer service experience preferred

· Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization

· Ability to follow procedures, statutory guidelines, and office policies

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to interact professionally with the public, attorneys, and court staff

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively

· Must maintain regular and predictable attendance and be punctual

· Ability to multitask in a fast ‑ paced environment

· Willingness to learn court procedures and filing processes

· Able to lift up to 30 pounds

· Must pass a background security screening ($39.05)

After receiving a conditional offer of employment, applicant must pass a drug screen (1/2 cost = $20.00, responsibility of applicant) and may need a physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant) before becoming an employee of Montgomery County.
