Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Licensed School-Based Clinician will provide behavioral health assessments, counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and care coordination for students in the school setting. The clinician will collaborate with school personnel, families, and Turnaround Community Outreach to address students' social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. Services will be delivered in accordance with Georgia state regulations, school district policies, agency standards, and professional ethical standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
Active Georgia licensure in good standing as one of the following:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
Licensed Psychologist
Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and families preferred.
Experience working in school settings, community mental health, or integrated care environments preferred.
Knowledge of Georgia mental health regulations, educational systems, special education processes, and trauma-informed care practices.
Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Valid Georgia driver's license and reliable transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Services

Provide individual, group, and family therapy services to students experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, or mental health challenges.
Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
Deliver evidence-based interventions and therapeutic services appropriate to student needs.
Monitor treatment progress and revise plan as necessary.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with state, federal, and district.
Develop behavioral health BIRP Notes, treatment plans, assessments, billing, and compliance documentation.

Crisis Intervention

Respond to behavioral health crises, including suicide risk and threat assessments, self-harm concerns, and acute mental health emergencies.
Develop and implement safety plans for at-risk students.
Coordinate with school administrators, families, emergency responders, and community providers during crises.
Participate in assigned district crisis response teams.

School Collaboration

Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, nurses, and student support teams to improve student outcomes.
Participate in Student Support Team (SST), Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and Section 504 meetings as appropriate.
Provide behavioral health consultation and recommendations to school staff.
Support a positive school climate and behavioral intervention initiatives.

Family and Community Engagement

Engage families in treatment planning and ongoing care.
Provide parent education and support for behavioral health concerns.
Coordinate referrals to community-based services and resources.
Maintain partnerships with community agencies and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

Prevention and Education

Facilitate prevention programs addressing topics such as:
Mental health awareness
Substance use prevention
Social-emotional learning
Bullying prevention
Stress management
Suicide prevention

Compliance and Quality Assurance

Adhere to professional ethics, HIPAA, FERPA, Georgia licensing standards, and Gwinnett County School District policies.
Maintain productivity and performance standards established by the agency.
Participate in supervision, professional development, and program evaluation activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, behavioral interventions, and evidence-based treatment modalities.
Ability to conduct risk assessments and crisis interventions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and families.
Proficiency with electronic health records and documentation systems.
Behavioral health documentation, treatment plans, assessments, billing, and compliance.
Ability to maintain confidentiality while navigating HIPAA and FERPA requirements.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to move among multiple school sites.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
Ability to respond quickly during crisis situations.

Preferred Certifications and Training

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
Youth Mental Health First Aid
Suicide Prevention Training (ASIST, QPR, or equivalent)
