Job Summary
Bryan Materials Group is seeking a skilled, dependable, and safety-focused Crane Operator and Barge Unloader to join our aggregate production team. This position is responsible for executing heavy equipment operations on the waterfront, safely unloading material from barges, and ensuring efficient aggregate plant production.
While primarily an operator role, this position requires a hands-on professional willing to assist with rigging, deckhand duties, and general plant maintenance to ensure a safe and efficient workplace.
Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate cranes and heavy machinery to unload aggregate materials from river barges.
- Marine Operations: Perform essential deckhand duties, including securing vessels, rigging, and line tying.
- Material Handling: Manage material flow into hoppers, stock piles, and processing equipment.
- Maintenance & Inspection: Conduct daily pre-shift inspections on cranes and marine equipment; report maintenance needs immediately.
- Plant Support: Operate support equipment such as Front-End Loaders, skid steers, and forklifts as needed.
- Mechanical Assistance: Assist mechanics with routine equipment maintenance, welding projects, and plant repairs.
- Housekeeping: Keep material handling areas, walkways, and conveyor systems clear of debris via shoveling and sweeping.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and marine safety standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Proven experience operating cranes or heavy material-handling equipment in an industrial, aggregate, or marine environment.
- Strong working knowledge of barge operations, rigging, and marine line tying is highly important.
- Experience operating Front-End Loaders, skid steers, and forklifts is a big plus.
- Welding or general mechanical repair experience is highly preferred.
- Experience with concrete crushing and screening equipment is an asset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting 50+ lbs regularly, climbing ladders, and working at heights.
- Excellent spatial awareness, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to waterfront safety.
- Reliability and willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
