About the Firm

We are a boutique Orange County law firm focused on sophisticated estate planning, tax planning, and business planning for individuals, families, business owners, and closely held businesses. Our practice emphasizes thoughtful planning, careful legal analysis, high-quality work product, and practical solutions tailored to each client's circumstances.

We are seeking a part-time Law Clerk who is currently enrolled in law school and interested in gaining substantive, hands-on experience in a transactional and planning-oriented practice.

Position Overview

The Law Clerk will work directly with attorneys on a variety of estate planning, tax, and business matters. This position is designed to provide meaningful exposure to the legal research, analysis, drafting, and client work involved in a sophisticated estate, business, nd tax planning practice.

Assignments will be tailored to the clerk's experience and may become progressively more substantive as the clerk develops familiarity with the firm's practice.

Responsibilities

The Law Clerk's responsibilities may include:

Conducting legal research on federal and California estate, gift, income, and business tax issues;
Researching estate planning, trust administration, probate, and business law issues;
Preparing legal research memoranda and written analyses;
Assisting attorneys with the preparation and review of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, and related estate planning documents;
Assisting with sophisticated estate and tax planning matters, including research regarding wealth transfer strategies and trust structures;
Assisting with business planning and entity matters involving corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and closely held businesses;
Researching and assisting with business formations, reorganizations, ownership and governance matters, and succession planning;
Reviewing and summarizing statutes, regulations, cases, IRS guidance, and other legal authorities;
Assisting in drafting correspondence, internal memoranda, agreements, resolutions, and other legal documents;
Organizing and analyzing information relevant to client planning matters; and
Supporting attorneys with other substantive legal projects as needed.

Qualifications

Candidate must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a J.D. program at an accredited law school and must remain enrolled as a law student during the period of employment.

Prior experience in estate planning, taxation, or business law is helpful but is not required.

The ideal candidate will have:

Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills;
Excellent attention to detail;
Strong organizational and time-management skills;
Intellectual curiosity and an interest in learning complex areas of law;
The ability to communicate clearly and professionally;
Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential client information;
The ability to work independently while asking appropriate questions and incorporating feedback; and
An interest in estate planning, taxation, business planning, or related areas.

Coursework in Federal Income Tax, Estate and Gift Tax, Trusts & Estates, Business Associations, or similar subjects is a plus but is not required.

Schedule

This is a part-time position with a set weekly schedule, structured around the student's law school commitments. Specific days, hours, and anticipated weekly hours will be discussed during the interview process.
