Carpenter – Ithaca, NY

Position Summary:

The Carpenter is responsible for the successful execution of residential remodeling projects from start to finish. This role includes hands-on carpentry, daily jobsite coordination and collaboration with fellow team members and subcontractors.

This is a full-time position (35 to 40 hours per week) working on a variety of custom residential remodeling projects in the Ithaca area.

Key Responsibilities:

Day-to-day management and execution of assigned remodeling and construction projects, overseeing subcontractors.
Serve as the on-site liaison for Upscale Remodeling Corp., advocating for client needs.
Review project scope, details, site conditions, and client expectations comprehensively.
Delegate, assist with, and perform designated construction tasks as needed.
Collaborate with team members and subcontractors, assigning tasks with clear timelines and expectations.
Enforce company and industry safety guidelines for all team members and subcontractors.
Provide regular job log photos to project management app/website.
Address client questions and concerns promptly, aiming to have someone respond within 24 hours.
Maintain a smoke-free work environment at all times. No smoking of any kind is permitted during buisness hours.

Leadership:

Lead by example.
Be honest, humble, levelheaded, people-oriented, and quality-minded.
Collaborate with Upscale Remodeling team members and trade partners on the jobsite.
Demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with fellow carpenters on multiple projects, prioritizing departmental needs and maintaining flexibility with scheduling and staffing.
Maintain and reinforce the company’s standards of professionalism among all team members and trade partners.
Lead, supervise, direct, mentor, and teach other team members.

Qualifications:

Minimum of eight (5) years of carpentry experience with expertise in all phases of residential remodeling and construction procedures.
Proficient in rough carpentry, including floor, deck, wall, and roof framing, as well as layout knowledge of foundations, rafters, and stairs, and structural load-path understanding.
Experienced in finish carpentry, including trim work, cabinetry installation, and interior finishes.
Strong communication skills, able to effectively interact with clients, team members, vendors, and specialty trade contractors.
Capable of both following direction and providing leadership, supervision, direction, mentoring, and teaching to other team members.
Excellent listening and comprehension abilities, along with proficiency in understanding construction drawings, scopes of work, specifications, contracts, and business correspondence.
Willingness to adapt to and embrace new technology, apps, and software relevant to the industry.
Keen eye for quality and a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
Valid NYS driver’s license required.

Additional Responsibilities:

Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance daily.
Conduct yourself in a professional, positive, and courteous manner at all times.
Attend project-related meetings.
Utilize project management software (e.g., BuilderTrend) and other relevant apps and software.
Address and resolve production-related issues efficiently.
Identify and implement improvements to enhance production efficiency.
Plan jobs proactively to minimize material and shop runs.
Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure team members do the same.
Maintain a safe, productive, and efficient work environment.
Participate actively in company meetings and trainings.
Cultivate positive relationships with team members, clients, and vendors.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Tool and Equipment Requirements

Carpenters are expected to supply and maintain all the standard hand and power tools necessary for this position. Items such as ladders, scaffolding, blades, other consumables, etc., are provided by the company.
Clean, reliable, pick-up truck or van.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, climbing, and sitting.
Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds.
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds.
Ability to climb and work off ladders up to 30 feet, and work at heights up to 40 feet off the ground.
Must be able to use a computer and see color.
Ability to travel to job sites daily, and transport tools and materials to and from efficiently.
