Full Job Description

Tumblesalts Cafe is currently hiring breakfast cook Wed thru Sun 7am to 12 pm. Tumblesalts Cafe is a neighborhood bistro and bar with 80-100 indoor and outdoor seats serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Open every day.
Breakfast Cook Job Duties

Food Preparation

Arrive early to open the kitchen and prepare breakfast station(s).
Prepare eggs, omelets, pancakes, waffles, French toast, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast meats, potatoes, oatmeal, and other menu items.
Prepare ingredients before service (mise en place).
Portion and label all products according to recipes.
Maintain consistent quality and presentation.

Line Cooking

Cook food to order accurately and efficiently.
Read and prepare tickets in order of priority.
Coordinate with servers and other kitchen staff to ensure timely service.
Maintain ticket times during busy breakfast and brunch periods.

Food Safety

Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Monitor food temperatures.
Rotate products using FIFO (First In, First Out).
Properly store all food after service.
Report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues immediately.

Kitchen Organization

Keep work station clean and organized throughout the shift.
Wash and sanitize equipment and utensils as needed.
Refill ingredients during service.
Dispose of trash and recycling regularly.

Opening Duties

Turn on grills, fryers, ovens, and equipment.
Brew coffee (if assigned).
Stock refrigerators and line coolers.
Slice fruit and prepare garnishes.
Set up breakfast stations before opening.

Closing Duties

Break down and clean all stations.
Label and properly store leftover product.
Clean grills, flattops, fryers, and cooking equipment.
Sweep and mop kitchen floors.
Complete cleaning checklist.
Notify manager of low inventory.

Inventory

Inform management when supplies are running low.
Help receive and rotate deliveries.
Minimize food waste.

Teamwork

Assist prep cooks and lunch cooks when breakfast slows.
Help with prep for lunch service.
Maintain a positive attitude with coworkers.
Communicate clearly during busy periods.

Skills & Qualifications

Previous breakfast or line cook experience preferred.
Ability to cook eggs to customer specifications.
Knowledge of breakfast and brunch cooking techniques.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Reliable and punctual.
Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Familiarity with food safety regulations.
ServSafe certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements

Stand for 6–10 hours.
Lift up to 50 pounds.
Bend, reach, and work near hot equipment.
Work in a fast-paced, high-temperature environment.

Additional Responsibilities

Because Tumblesalts transitions from breakfast into lunch, the breakfast cook should also:

Knowledge of TOAST POS System
Assist with lunch prep after the breakfast rush.
Prepare soups, sauces, and daily specials.
Restock all kitchen stations.
Bake or warm pastries as needed.
Help train new kitchen employees.
Maintain recipe consistency.
Keep ticket times under established service goals.
Take pride in producing attractive, high-quality plates every time.
