The Opportunity
Byers Industrial Services is seeking an experienced Construction Safety Professional to support a large-scale data center construction project in Vineland, New Jersey.
We are specifically looking for a well-rounded, field-oriented safety professional with a strong understanding of both electrical and civil construction.
This is not an entry-level safety position.
The successful candidate must have practical construction safety knowledge and be capable of walking an active project, recognizing hazards, assessing risk, correcting unsafe conditions, working directly with field leadership, and maintaining compliance across multiple active construction scopes.
This individual will play an important role in promoting a proactive safety culture built around hazard recognition, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, large industrial projects, manufacturing facilities, power generation, or other complex construction environments is highly preferred.
Local and traveling candidates are encouraged to apply. Eligible travelers must be willing to temporarily relocate to the Vineland, NJ area for the duration of the project.
Pay, Overtime & Per Diem
- Starting at $40.00/hour
- Higher hourly rates available based on experience, qualifications, and certifications
- Time-and-a-half after 40 hours
- Automatic time-and-a-half on Saturdays
- Automatic double time on Sundays
- 60–70+ hours per week currently available
- Significant overtime and earning potential
- $150/day per diem, paid 7 days per week for eligible travelers
- Up to $1,050 per week in per diem for eligible traveling employees
The project is currently operating on a 7-day, 12-hour schedule (7/12s). Individual Safety personnel schedules may vary depending on project coverage and operational requirements.
Traveling Candidates
Traveling candidates must be willing and able to temporarily relocate to the Vineland, NJ area for the duration of the assignment.
Employees must report to the project for their assigned work schedule. Per diem eligibility is determined based on employee residence and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily field safety oversight throughout an active large-scale data center construction project
- Support and monitor both electrical and civil construction activities
- Maintain a strong and consistent field presence throughout the project
- Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections, observations, and compliance audits
- Perform hazard assessments and risk evaluations for active construction activities
- Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and potential hazards before incidents occur
- Recommend and implement appropriate hazard controls and mitigation measures
- Work directly with electricians, civil crews, foremen, superintendents, project management, and other trades
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, company, customer, and project-specific safety requirements
- Support compliance with applicable NFPA, ANSI, NEC, and other recognized construction safety standards
- Conduct and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, pre-task planning, and employee safety training
- Review JHAs, JSAs, pre-task plans, and other required safety documentation
- Assist field leadership with planning high-risk work and establishing appropriate controls before work begins
- Verify proper PPE and safe work practices throughout the project
- Document safety observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, incidents, and compliance activities
- Track identified safety deficiencies through completion of corrective actions
- Participate in incident and near-miss investigations
- Assist with root-cause analysis and development of corrective/preventive actions
- Assist with employee orientations and site-specific safety training
- Maintain accurate safety training, inspection, incident, and compliance records
- Communicate safety expectations clearly and professionally with employees and project leadership
- Work collaboratively with project management and field supervision to continuously improve jobsite safety performance
Electrical Construction Safety
Candidates must have a strong working understanding of hazards associated with industrial electrical construction, including:
- Industrial and large-scale electrical installations
- Conduit and cable tray installation
- Large wire pulls
- Electrical equipment and distribution systems
- Switchgear and electrical equipment
- Energized electrical hazards
- Electrical safe work practices
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Temporary power
- Electrical PPE requirements
- Scissor lifts and boom lifts
- Ladder and scaffold safety
- Fall protection
- Rigging and material handling
Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC requirements, and electrical safe work practices is strongly preferred.
Civil Construction Safety
Candidates must also have a strong understanding of civil construction activities and hazards, including:
- Excavation and trenching
- Underground utilities
- Site development
- Earthmoving operations
- Concrete operations
- Heavy and mobile equipment
- Utility installation
- Equipment and pedestrian interaction
- Rigging and material handling
- Fall protection
- Site access and traffic control
- Housekeeping and material staging
- Work occurring around active construction equipment
Minimum Qualifications
- OSHA 30 Construction – Required
- Previous professional construction safety experience
- Strong working knowledge of both electrical and civil construction safety
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and safe work practices
- Understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and implementation of appropriate controls
- Ability to recognize hazards and confidently address unsafe conditions in the field
- Experience conducting safety inspections, observations, or compliance audits
- Ability to communicate effectively with craft employees, foremen, superintendents, project management, and other safety professionals
- Strong written documentation and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to accurately document inspections, observations, incidents, and corrective actions
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends based on project requirements
- Ability to work outdoors and throughout a large active construction site
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment, electrical construction, excavations, and elevated work
- Traveling candidates must be able to relocate to the Vineland, NJ area for the project
- Must be able to pass required pre-employment screening
Preferred Qualifications
Additional consideration will be given to candidates with:
- Data center or mission-critical construction experience
- Large-scale industrial construction safety experience
- OSHA 510 or OSHA 500
- CHST, STSC, CSP, or similar professional safety certification
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification
- NFPA 70E training or electrical safety experience
- Knowledge of ANSI and NEC standards
- Excavation and trenching competent-person training or experience
- LOTO program experience
- Fall protection training or competent-person experience
- Experience performing formal hazard or risk assessments
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root-cause analysis
- Experience developing and tracking corrective actions
- Experience supporting large electrical workforces or multiple construction trades
- Experience with construction safety management or reporting software

We're looking for a field-oriented construction safety professional who understands how construction actually gets built.
The right candidate should be able to walk an active data center project, observe both civil and electrical operations, understand what the crews are doing, recognize what can go wrong, evaluate the level of risk, and determine what controls need to be in place to perform the work safely.
We need someone who is comfortable being visible in the field, communicating directly with tradespeople and supervision, addressing unsafe conditions, documenting deficiencies, and following corrective actions through completion.
Just as importantly, this individual must be able to hold employees and supervision accountable while maintaining productive working relationships with the project team.
