Job Summary
Join our transportation team as a Class B CDL Charter Bus Driver with a Passenger (P) Endorsement. In this role, you will operate motor coaches and mini-coach buses for hourly charters, group transportation, events, excursions, and multi-day trips.
The ideal candidate is a safety-focused, dependable, and professional driver who takes pride in providing excellent customer service while maintaining strict compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) requirements, company policies, and all applicable state and federal transportation laws.
This position offers the opportunity to travel throughout the region and beyond while providing safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation for our passengers.
Essential Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class B motor coaches, mini-coaches, and other passenger vehicles on local, regional, and multi-day trips.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and customer-focused attitude when interacting with passengers, clients, dispatchers, and other team members.
- Comply with all applicable FMCSA/DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, state transportation laws, and company safety policies.
- Accurately maintain required driver logs, trip records, inspection reports, and other DOT documentation.
- Perform required pre-trip, post-trip, and en-route vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical or safety concerns.
- Verify proper operation of brakes, tires, lights, emergency equipment, safety systems, and other critical vehicle components.
- Safely assist passengers with boarding, exiting, luggage, and reasonable passenger assistance needs.
- Operate vehicles safely in city traffic, on highways, in construction zones, and during changing or adverse weather conditions.
- Use GPS, maps, dispatch instructions, and other navigation tools to safely and efficiently reach destinations.
- Maintain awareness of passenger safety throughout the entire trip and respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, or changing road conditions.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and management regarding trip status, delays, vehicle issues, passenger concerns, and other operational matters.
- Maintain a clean and presentable vehicle and ensure the passenger area is safe and ready for service.
- Follow all procedures for fueling, vehicle security, accident/incident reporting, and vehicle maintenance.
- Be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, extended hours, overnight stays, and multi-day trips as business needs require.
- Follow company policies regarding passenger conduct, vehicle operation, safety, and professional appearance.
Driver Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Valid Passenger (P) Endorsement required.
- Must meet all applicable DOT/FMCSA driver qualification requirements.
- Must successfully pass a DOT physical examination and maintain a valid medical certification as required.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT requirements.
- Must successfully complete a motor vehicle record (MVR) review and background check.
- Must maintain a safe driving record and meet company insurance requirements.
- Previous experience operating motor coaches, charter buses, school buses, mini-coaches, or other passenger transportation vehicles preferred.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles equipped with air brakes.
- Ability to perform and document required vehicle inspections.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service, and commercial vehicle safety requirements.
- Ability to read maps and use GPS/navigation systems.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with passengers, traffic, delays, or unexpected situations.
- Ability to safely assist passengers and handle luggage when required.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly while following dispatch and company instructions.
- Ability and willingness to travel on multi-day assignments when scheduled.
Physical & Job Requirements
- Ability to sit and operate a commercial passenger vehicle for extended periods.
- Ability to safely enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Ability to assist passengers with boarding, exiting, and luggage as needed.
- Ability to perform required vehicle inspections, including walking around the vehicle and checking safety equipment.
- Ability to work varying schedules and extended shifts while remaining compliant with DOT Hours of Service regulations.
- Must be able to meet the physical and medical requirements established by applicable DOT regulations.
Preferred Experience
- Charter bus or motor coach driving experience.
- Experience with hourly charters and multi-day group trips.
- Experience transporting corporate groups, schools, athletic teams, tour groups, senior groups, or special events.
- Familiarity with regional and interstate travel.
- Knowledge of passenger transportation safety practices and emergency procedures.
