Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Peer Support Specialist to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will serve as a trusted advocate and mentor for individuals navigating mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Your personal recovery experience, combined with your dedication to fostering hope and resilience, will empower clients to achieve their recovery goals. You will provide peer support through active engagement, crisis management, and motivational techniques, all while maintaining a respectful and culturally sensitive approach. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those seeking recovery and stability.

Responsibilities

Offer peer support by sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivation
Assist clients in developing coping strategies through behavioral health and harm reduction techniques
Conduct crisis intervention and crisis management to de-escalate situations safely and effectively
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans for individuals with mental health and substance use conditions
Engage clients in motivational interviewing to promote positive behavioral changes and treatment adherence
Maintain strict confidentiality of client information in accordance with privacy regulations and ethical standards
Advocate for clients’ needs within culturally diverse communities, ensuring respectful and inclusive support
Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems accurately to document interactions, progress notes, and service plans
Support clients in developing life skills, fostering independence, and strengthening their recovery journey
Promote client communication by actively listening, providing empathetic support, and encouraging self-advocacy

Qualifications

Personal experience with recovery from mental health conditions or substance use disorders is highly valued
Knowledge of crisis management, crisis intervention, and harm reduction strategies
Background in behavioral health, mental health counseling, social work, or addiction counseling preferred
Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders or complex behavioral health needs is a plus
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally diverse communities with sensitivity and respect
Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate others toward positive change
Excellent communication skills focused on client engagement and advocacy
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality according to legal and ethical standards
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes
