Job Summary
The SuperSnack (Late Night) Cook/Back of House Supervisor oversees the set-up, service, and clean-up at Thorne Dining Hall. SuperSnack is a highly popular way to fuel late-night studies or merriment. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in Thorne Hall, from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am. Bowdoin Dining lays out an offering of late-night fare including favorites such as grilled cheese, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and nachos, alongside assorted fruit, veggies, and desserts.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervision of set–up, food preparation, service, clean up and closing for Super Snack meal period.
- Overseeing back of the house and dish drop area is maintained in a neat and sanitary manner.
- Assists as needed with Front of the House (FOH) assistance (i.e. servery area, dining room clean up).
- Performing task support in diverse culinary departments such as cold foods or bake shop including preparing ingredients for use in recipe production, operating cold food and short order cooking equipment, and serving or replenishing foods on the hot and cold serving lines.
- Greeting students and serving as a customer service representative for dining service.
- Assists with front of house shift leader- monitors the activity of students in the dining room.
- Addressing routine problem behaviors or safety issues that arise directly with students.
- Back of House (BOH) assignment of production and service workload.
- Training and supervising production, sanitation staff, cashiers/checkers, and verifying cash bag contents.
- Providing production documentation, routine meal counts, and related reports.
- Assisting in the dining hall in a Cook capacity when not engaged in the duties required for the SuperSnack operation.
The standard work week for this position is:
- Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: 4:00 pm – 2:00 am.
- This position is a part-time, 30-hour position for the academic year
- This position would start around Mid-August
Pay and Shift Differentials:
- Pay: $24.45 per hour
- 2nd Shift Differential (10%): Applies to hours worked from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm (i.e., $24.45 × 10% = $2.45 additional per hour)
- 3rd Shift Differential (15%): Applies to hours worked from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am (i.e., $24.45 × 15% = $3.67 additional per hour)
- Supersnack Premium: Additional $2.00 per hour for eligible hours, $24.45 + $2.00 = $26.45/per hour (10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.)
- Weekend Differential: Additional $1.00 per hour for hours worked on Saturday and Sunday.
- New employees in Dining will receive a $500 sign-on bonus (½ paid at first check and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent oral and written communication is required
- Demonstrated reliability and ability to work quickly and efficiently.
- Must be able to work independently within a team atmosphere.
- Must demonstrate good personal hygiene practices.
- Self-motivated, possess good decision making, and organizational skills
- Commitment to customer service.
- Ability to multi-task and follow written and oral direction.
- Ability and drive to learn new tasks
- Ability to work independently within a team atmosphere
- Computer skills necessary to work with basic spreadsheets and word processing.
Preferred:
- Culinary Degree and demonstrated understanding of basic cooking techniques and their application in catering and/or institutional settings.
- A valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet the eligibility requirements of the College’s current Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in kitchen production or food service.
- Demonstrated understanding of advanced cooking techniques and their application in catering and/or institutional settings.
- This position is subject to a pre-placement physical and criminal background check.
- ServSafe Certification (Dining employees will be provided training within their first six months to become certified)
Preferred:
- 5+ years of experience in kitchen production or food service.
- Prior experience with conflict resolution and team building.

Standard Work Days and Hours
The standard work week for this position is:
- Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: 4:00 pm – 2:00 am.
- This position is a part-time, academic year round position working 30 hours (0.55 FTE).
The role will be required to work occasional overtime, holidays, and during weather emergencies, in addition to working major college events and weekends (i.e., Parent’s Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions).
