Full Job Description

Job Summary
Family Services, Inc. DBA Origin SC, a fast-paced, nonprofit agency in North Charleston, is seeking a Housing Counselor & Workshop Facilitator. Since 1888, Origin SC has remained one of the leading nonprofit human service organizations in providing professional financial, housing, and mental health counseling services. Our mission is to empower individuals to achieve financial, housing, and mental health stability through advocacy, counseling, and education.

Join our dynamic and innovative nonprofit organization as a Housing Counselor & Workshop Facilitator responsible for providing housing and/or credit counseling to individuals to help them achieve their financial and/or housing goals and ultimately financial stability.

Primary duties include:

Provide individualized financial and housing counseling by assessing clients' financial situations, identifying barriers and goals, and developing personalized budgets, action plans, and strategies to promote financial stability and homeownership readiness.
Educate clients on a variety of personal finance and housing topics such as budgeting, credit improvement, debt management, savings, bankruptcy, wage garnishments, student loans, consumer protection laws, etc.
Deliver one-on-one counseling, ongoing case management, referrals, and follow-up services to support successful client outcomes.
Plan, coordinate, promote, and facilitate financial education and housing counseling workshops in person, virtually, and throughout the community.

Key responsibilities include:

Maintain a high-volume caseload while providing caring, responsive, and professional customer service to clients and community partners.
Build, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with community organizations, nonprofits, schools, housing agencies, churches, and other community partners to collaborate and host educational programs and expand access to financial wellness.
Respond promptly to client and partner inquiries, including phone calls and emails, to ensure exceptional customer service and effective communication.
Maintain complete, organized, and compliant client records and data in accordance with organizational policies, grand requirements, and regulatory standards.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Must occasionally work nights and weekends to accommodate counseling, workshop, and training schedule. Weekly work schedule will be adjusted to accommodate counseling and training calendar.
Proven experience in social services, case management or housing counseling with a focus on underserved or high-risk populations.

Qualifications:

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Solid Microsoft Office knowledge with proficiency in Excel
Preferred: College degree or 5 years’ relevant experience
Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required. We welcome applicants with diverse language skills and backgrounds
Required Certifications/Licenses (to be obtained after hiring): HUD Housing Counselor Certification, National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) Credit Counselor, SC Department of Consumer Affairs Credit Counselor
