RN Review Analyst / Utilization Review Nurse

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to perform prospective, concurrent, and retrospective utilization reviews to ensure medical necessity, appropriate level of care, and effective use of healthcare services. This role reviews authorization requests, appeals, and clinical documentation while collaborating with providers, members, and healthcare teams to support quality patient outcomes and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Review and authorize inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and ancillary service requests using established clinical guidelines.
Evaluate medical necessity, level of care, length of stay, and treatment plans.
Conduct retrospective reviews and appeal determinations in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Coordinate discharge planning and transitions of care.
Collaborate with providers, facilities, and internal departments to resolve authorization, eligibility, and benefit-related issues.
Identify and document quality-of-care concerns and recommend appropriate action.
Support care management initiatives and member outreach activities as needed.
Educate providers on policies, procedures, and benefit requirements.

Qualifications

Current unrestricted Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
2+ years of clinical nursing experience in acute care, case management, utilization review, discharge planning, or related healthcare settings.
Managed care, health plan, or utilization management experience preferred.
Strong understanding of medical necessity criteria, level-of-care determinations, and healthcare regulations.
Excellent communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
Case Management Certification (CCM) preferred.
