Full Job Description

Job description:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will strive to achieve the mission of Benedictine and operate in an ethical manner that always focuses on the quality of life, health, safety, and well-being of the children we support. Responsible for providing direct supervision and support in the school residential setting (Campus or Group Homes).

Schedules available:

- Sunday - Thursday (Sunday; 1:00p - 9:00p, Monday - Thursday; 2:30p - 10:30p)

- Tuesday - Saturday (Tuesday - Friday; 2:30p - 10:30p, Saturday 1:00p - 9:00p)

- Friday - Monday (Friday and Monday; 2:30p - 10:30p, Saturday and Sunday can be the following: 6:00a - 6:00p, 7:00a - 7:00p, 8:00a - 8:00p, 9:00a - 9:00p)

- Weekend shifts; Work 26 hours, paid for 35 hours (Free 9 hours!)

Pay:

The Pay for this position is $17.00/hourly. Additionally, employees receive a $2.50 shift differential for hours worked starting Friday at 4:00p until Monday at 8:00a.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Consistently report to work on time as scheduled, prepared to perform assigned duties and responsibilities during entire scheduled work period/shift.
Must be present in assigned area and engaged with assigned student(s) during work hours
Provide assistance, as needed, to students in completion of daily living skills including toileting, bathing, feeding, tooth brushing and other hygiene, all while encouraging independence.
Provide assistance, as needed, to students in completion of daily chores and upkeep of their room and personal belongings, all while encouraging independence.
Provide assistance, as needed, to students in participating in regular leisure (group and individual) activities, all while encouraging independence.
Teach and assist students with individual plan (ISP, IEP) goals and objectives
Complete required daily documentation including Therap, Autism Waiver notes, and BTF data before the end of each shift.
Complete additional documentation as needed to include incident report (prior to the end of your shift on date of incident), special meal or exercise data, etc.
Follow the individual behavior plans for each student. Access support from the Residential Crisis Team Coordinator if needed.
Serve as a role model for students and coworkers by demonstrating core values and the Benedictine Code of Conduct.
Complete Therap notes and communicate any notable information to the next shift prior to leaving.
Ensure suite/house is left in good order by the end of your shift. This includes distributing laundry, taking out trash, general cleaning, etc.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Set good examples, exhibit professionalism and be a positive role model for the students, following the Benedictine Code of Conduct.
Inform Shift Supervisor or Residential Coordinator of any notable events or needs (this could include behavioral incidents, broken furniture or equipment, unplanned events, etc.).
Implement special supports including exercise programs, sensory diets, etc.
Cooperate with Benedictine administration and in-state/out-of-state agencies in any inspection or investigation.
Attend and successfully complete mandatory trainings and maintain job-specific certifications/licenses.
Administer medication, assist with feeding tubes, monitor vital signs, and keep medication charts in accordance with required guidelines and under direction of delegating nurse, when needed.
Assist with transportation to/and from main campus and into the community, when needed.
Other duties, as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required if 21 years old or older; Associates degree in social services or related field required if between the ages of 18 and 21.
Must be Med Tech certified, or be able to obtain Med Tech certification if required for assignment.
Must obtain RCYCP Certification within 120 days of hire date and maintain certification throughout employment.
Excellent communication skills; good organizational skills; flexible and able to work independently with strong problem-solving abilities.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. upon offer of employment.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and pre-employment physical
Must pass pre-employment criminal background checks through CJIS, as stated in Family Law Article 5-561, and pass a pre-employment CPS check.
(If applicable) If the position requires driving, must have a current and valid driver’s license in good standing and a driving record that permits coverage under Benedictine’s driver insurance.
Must be a strong advocate of the Benedictine mission—to help children and adults with developmental disabilities achieve their greatest potential—and be motivated to contribute to that mission with pride and integrity.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift or push up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to see clearly, with the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to implement physical interventions as outlined in Safety Care. Note that only standard minimal or temporary physical implementation restrictions, as approved by Behavior Department, may be permitted.
Must be physically able to implement student specific behavior strategies and individual student programs
Must be able to speak and hear clearly.
