Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC press brake equipment to bend and form metal components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications. This position ensures parts are produced accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining quality standards and meeting production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC press brake machines to produce parts that meet customer specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, and manufacturing instructions.
Select proper tooling and perform machine setups for various materials and part configurations.
Program or modify CNC programs as required.
Verify dimensions using measuring instruments including tape measures, calipers, micrometers, angle gauges, and protractors.
Perform first-piece inspections and routine quality checks throughout production runs.
Adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy and quality.
Load and unload material using overhead cranes, forklifts, vacuum lifters, or other material handling equipment as required.
Identify material defects or quality concerns and report issues promptly.
Complete required production documentation accurately and timely.
Perform routine preventive maintenance and daily equipment inspections.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area in accordance with company safety policies.
Work closely with supervisors, programmers, quality personnel, and other operators to improve processes and productivity.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-training opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience operating CNC press brake equipment preferred.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Basic mathematical skills including fractions, decimals, and geometry.
Experience using precision measuring instruments.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Basic computer skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry materials up to 50 pounds; heavier materials with lifting equipment.
Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive hand movements.
Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts after certification.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, temperature fluctuations, and metal dust while wearing required PPE.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of CNC press brake operations and metal forming processes.
Understanding of tooling selection and bend sequence.
Ability to interpret bend deductions and flat pattern dimensions.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Excellent attention to detail.
Commitment to workplace safety and quality.
Ability to meet production goals while maintaining quality standards.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Trumpf, Cincinnati, Bystronic, Amada, or similar CNC press brake equipment.
Overhead crane and forklift certification.
Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
Prior experience in a steel service center or metal fabrication environment.
