Overview

We are a real estate private equity firm looking to fill a newly created position due to growth. We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Controller specializing in Real Estate and Property Accounting to join our Accounting and Finance team. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to lead financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive accurate reporting within a fast-paced real estate environment. As an integral part of our organization, you will leverage your expertise in accounting principles, financial analysis, and team management to support our strategic growth and operational excellence. This position is ideal for a motivated professional eager to contribute to a thriving organization committed to transparency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Oversee the full spectrum of property accounting functions, including general ledger management, balance sheet reconciliation, and accounts receivable/payable processing.
Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis.
Manage the preparation of financial reports, including cash flow statements, budget forecasts, and regulatory filings for governmental agencies.
Conduct detailed cost accounting analysis for property portfolios to optimize financial performance and support strategic decision-making.
Collaborate with external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring audit readiness.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a high-performing team focused on accuracy, efficiency, and professional development.
Implement and maintain accounting systems and software solutions to streamline operations and enhance data analysis capabilities using Excel data analysis tools.
Support treasury management activities such as cash management, accounts receivable collections, accounts payable processing, and payroll administration.
Ensure strict adherence to regulatory compliance accounting standards while continuously improving internal controls and processes.

Skills

BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance/related field.
Expertise in financial software systems, general ledger accounting software, spreadsheets (Excel), and financial report writing tools.
Proven ability in managing accounting teams with excellent leadership skills; experience in finance team management is highly desirable.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis processes.
Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly through comprehensive financial reporting tailored for diverse audiences.
