Full Job Description

SEC SHIELD is looking for a Safety Manager that will be assigned to Lamphere Schools. This position will work primarily within the Lamphere Center. Lamphere Center is an Oakland County Special Education program designed to address the needs of students with various cognitive and behavioral challenges between the years of middle school and age 26. This is a 9 month position that will consist of 180 days and will also require an additional 5 days of training during August annually.

Qualifications:

Experience working with special needs students preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate with students, school staff, community, and public safety authorities.
Ability to physically manage student altercations.
Experience with crowd control/security.
Awareness of a variety of illegal substances.
Ability to work with administration, staff, community members, students and safety/security personnel in a cooperative manner.
Appropriate training and preparation to meet position requirements or willingness to participate in required training.
Ability to use/learn related technology tools (i.e., security cameras).
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as SEC may find appropriate and acceptable.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Monitor student activity in all areas of campus, both inside and outside.
Supervise campus and lunch room area.
Conduct regular risk assessments of the environment, activities, and interactions to identify potential triggers for aggressive behaviors. Develop strategies to prevent incidents through proactive measures such as de-escalation techniques, environmental modifications, and behavior management plans.
Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the use of seclusion and restraint in educational settings.
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of current research, best practices, and emerging trends in the field of special education, behavior management, and student safety.
Provide emergency seclusion and restraint when necessary.
Refer discipline, security, and attendance situations to appropriate personnel.
Enforce all district policies and procedures related to safety and security.
Assist with traffic control and supervision during drop-off and pick-up times.
Supervise extra-curricular functions at the district’s request.
Complete incident report forms when Safety Manager intervention is required.
Escort students to their classroom or administration office when arriving late or are wandering the halls.
Maintain SHIELD certification by participating in annual training.
Other safety and security duties as assigned by the School District designee.

Training Provided:

Our Safety Managers go through our extensive SEC Certified program to ensure they are vetted and trained to apply their skills and experience in school environments. The extensive program utilizes a holistic approach to cover:

Non-violent crisis intervention training with advanced physical skills through Crisis Prevention Institute
Critical incident management training
Behavioral threat assessment training
Tactical training (for armed safety managers)
Mental health awareness
Relationship building
CPR, AED + First Aid
Stop the Bleed training
Soft skills needed to bring the highest level of safety in an approachable, non-intrusive way

Working Environment and Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, speak and hear. The employee may be required to remain on their feet for extended periods of time.
